Chapter Two
Most of my nights I spent in the archives. Without anyone knowing, of course. The Village was still pretty unorganized without a Hokage so getting past security wasn't that hard. What I wanted were answers and I wanted to start with my birth certificate. I was born in this Village, so they must've had my birth certificate. I hoped. Turns out there were a lot of kids born that year and the drawer containing those files wasn't organized by date. So that very same night I snuck in again, hoping I would make some progress. And as I rummaged through the papers, I found Naruto's. I decided to give it a closer look since it couldn't have been much different than mine. We were twins after all. It read:
This certifies that Uzumaki Naruto was born to Uzumaki Kushina and Namikaze Minato on 10/10 at 19:32 pm
But the rest was incomplete. No information about the weight or height, no location of birth or the signatures of the doctors that helped give birth to him. I set it aside from the others and kept searching. But very soon I figured it out-mine wasn't there. Which didn't surprise me as much as confirm the fact that had been dancing around my mind for a while now. Someone was trying really hard to hide my existence. Which made me wonder why the Third Hikage ever believed I was who I said a was when I first got here. It was all too confusing for the night, so I put the papers back where they belonged, but took Naruto's certificate with me. I planned on questioning the hospital next morning. Someone was bound to have some answers.
While I was walking out of the main building, I sensed a shadow watching me. It didn't feel dangerous so I didn't bother identifying the person who was following me. And soon enough, that person identified themselves.
"You're not supposed to be here," Sakura said and I turned around.
"Neither should you."
"I was asked to stack some papers but I fell asleep."
"You're very lousy at your job then." I turned around to go but she stopped me again. "I'll turn you in."
"You're still paranoid I'm working for Uncle Orochimaru?" I said, looking over my shoulder.
"I always knew there was something off about you," she said, gaining some confidence.
"Well, last time I checked, he disowned me, so... But here," I said showing her Naruto's birth certificate. "This was all I took. Now, you can follow me and keep watch on me until you faint from exhaustion, or you can just take my word that I'll take it to my house and leave it there."
When she didn't respond, I shrugged and headed out. She caught up to me when I was already out.
"What are you planning on doing with it?" she asked.
"I plan on taking it to the hospital to ask why it's not filled out. Then I'm going to ask them where mine is."
"You mean it wasn't with the rest?"
"Nope, it was missing."
"How do you even know they're supposed to have it in the first place?"
Fair point. It made me consider for a while. Then I said, "Like I said, I'll go to the hospital and find out."
"I'll...I'll fight you!"
"You'll fight me?" Honestly, I didn't know how to react. She looked dead serious but all I wanted to do was burst out, laughing. "Why?"
"You may've helped us, but I'm not sure I can trust you."
"One: didn't we have this conversation already? So stop whining, if I wanted to do something I wouldn't be having this conversation with you. Which brings me to point number two: You can't fight me. You'd lose and I wouldn't even get training out of it."
