Stanton Basset, true to his word, let the three of them go after that. He drove them to the hospital and left them at the doors of the emergency room where the they were immediately whisked off to Intensive Care.

The police found out his true identity three days later when they sent dogs to follow Lisha's scent back through the forest. The bodies were recovered and Basset was put on trial for multiple convictions of abduction, assult, harassment, stalking, child abuse, and man slaughter.

His daughter, Gailyn Basset, after careful consideration was sent to a mental health institution for rehabilitation back into normal society. After the rehabilitation, she was to be put in the foster care system until they could track down her aunt, Elizabeth Basset-Murphy, her only living relative.
