I was last to wake up the next day. Some boxes have already been moved into the new house, and everyone had already ate because I could smell the food.
I stretched my back, and headed inside the house to go find my mom. Before I could do that though, I heard my name being called in the other direction. I turned around, and my mom was grabbing some boxes from the moving truck.
"Summer, sweetie, can you go to the store, and get some things for me, please?" she asked.
"But mom, I can't drive, and I just got here. I don't know where the stores are?" I simply answered.
"One of the truck drivers say there is one not to far away from here. If you walk, it should be ten minutes max?" my mom said as she is still struggling to pick up some of the heavier boxes.
"Mom let me help you with that," I walk closer to her.
"No," she says quickly, "I got it. Can you just get these things for me, please," she hands me a list, and I take it from her suspiciously.
"Can I at least ride my skateboard down to the store?" I ask.
"Yes, here," she hands me my skateboard. "Do you need a helmet?"
"No. I'm not a baby, mom. I'll be fine, okay?" She nods, and I hop onto my board, and start to roll down the driveway.
My mom was right after all. It took only twelve minutes to get to a store named Tobey's. On my way there, I passed a school which I'm thinking is my new school, but maybe there is another one. I picked up my skateboard, and hid it in some nearby bushes just in case you weren't aloud to have skateboards in the store. I walked inside, and it was actually quite busy. However, it is a small store, so it may be just crowded. I grab a basket, and start shopping for what's on the list. I finish in about ten minutes, and then head to an open cash register. There, I saw a teenage boy, that looked like he was a sophmore, and he wasn't bad looking. Okay, he was hot. Really hot. But I didn't drool or anything to make me look stupid.
"You find everything you were looking for?" he asked.
"Ah, yes I did, thanks," I replied.
He scanned my things, and then put them into the bag.
"That will be $15.59, please," he then said when he finished scanning the items.
I gave him the twenty my mom gave me before I left the house.
"Here's your change, and have a nice day."
Wow, he so polite!!
"Thank you. You too," I responded, and grabbed my bag of items. I walked out, and took off for my skateboard. Once I found it, I placed it down on the ground, and rolled all the way home.
By that time, it was lunchtime. The movers were still here helping get the boxes out of the truck, and my family was eating what looked like hamburgers. I rolled passed Brad, and kicked my board up. I grabbed it, and placed it on the ground. I took a seat by Brad, and he handed me a burger.
"Thanks."
"Yup," was all he said back.
I finished my burger, and then decided to help with the boxes, but before I could do THAT, someone called my name. I let out a big sigh before turning around.
"Yes?" I asked impatiently.
"I heard there was going to be an open gym at the PCS school. It starts in a couple minutes. You should get dressed in some different clothes, and go," my mom suggested.
"I think I'll pass. I want to help unpack," I replied as I'm starting to get a little aggravated.
"You will, and Brad is going, so you can watch him, and make new friends, okay?"
"But I-."
"You're going, now here's one of your boxes of clothes. Pick something out, and get changed in the car."
"Why in the car? There is a bathroom INSIDE the house."
"Clothes, car, now!" my mom said sternly.
I gave another big sigh, and walked over to the box. I picked out a white shirt with blue, black, pink, and yellow sunglasses on the top part of the shirt, and then oozing down the shirt with the same colored ink as the sunglasses. It was an awesome shirt. Then, I picked out light blue skinny jeans that had holes running up the legs. I had some bright blue and yellow skater shoes from polyvore, so I chose those. I saw my dad's dog tags from when we was over seas, and a bright blue New York Yankees baseball cap. I put a bright blue phone case on my phone, and kicked my black "flip" skateboard up.
I walked back over to my mom's car, and changed. I hopped back out, and rolled my skateboard back towards my mom. She looked up, and grinned.
"There you go, see?" she asked.
"Don't push it," I warned. She threw her hands up as if to fake surrender, and we both laughed.
"Alright, Brad is almost ready, so you guys can go after he comes out," my mom said.
"Okay," I replied.
Shortly, Brad comes out saying he's ready, so we wave goodbye, and head to the open gym. Since I already passed it on my way to Tobey's, I knew where to go. Brad followed, as I roll down the sidewalk towards the school. We get there in minutes, and I hide my skateboard in the woods behind the school, where no one will find it. We walk in through the heavy, blue doors, and immediately, I hear kids of all ages talking to each other and playing basketball, and fooling around.
"I'm gonna go play, okay sis?"
"Okay, but be back here in two hours," I say, but he is already off down the ramp, and into the big crowd.
I wander around, and pass by a trophey case. I step back, and glance at all the the trophies. They had a good amount, but all I saw were soccer and basketball. I saw a lot of baseball, too, but only sportsmanship and runner-up. Not a single championship.
I thought that was odd, but I didn't know anything about this school, so I just left it at that.
Two hours went by, and I had not talked to anyone. Brad had though. He had already made friends, and I was happy for him. We got home, and boxes were still outside, but the movers had finally left.
We slept in the car for one more night, hoping that next time we sleep, will be in our own beds.
