Continued directly....

Brahms eyes took on a gleam, and he looked around at all the other Fae minding their own business, before leaning in closer.

Instinctively, I also moved to close the distance.

"Oh, there's a prize alright. And this year, it's wings."

I looked at him, openmouthed.

"Wings?" I hissed, "How is that even possible?" Brahms shrugged again.

"I don't know, but I wouldn't doubt that they work. The donor isn't someone who breaks his word."

"Who? Who's giving the wings?"

"Rhysand, of course."

I stared blankly at Brahms.

"You're wrong. Rhysand isn't coming."

In return, he gave me a bewildered look.

"Of course he's coming. Tonight, in fact."

My thoughts started churning as I registered this new information.

"You're sure?" I croaked, absurdly feeling apprehension at seeing Rhsyand so soon. I cleared my throat and tried again. "You're positive?"

Brahms nodded, looking back down at his stomach and rubbing it once more.

"I'm sure; every High Lord has to attend. And besides, he's the donor. It would be illogical for him not to be here."

I nodded dumbly, choosing not to say more on the subject. Tamlin had told me yesterday when I'd arrived that Rhysand had declined the invitation. Was that just another lie?

If so, it was an ill-concieved one.

The more I processed that I would be seeing Rhysand tonight, the more nervous I became. Our relationship was still delicate--without acknowledging that I left the Night Court on rocky terms.

Would we speak, when he was here? Would he even look at me?

I sighed, slumping down further in my chair. Soon after, Brahms left for his rooms.

I knew he had noticed my sudden disquiet, but was grateful that he hadn't commented.

For a while, I sat stewing in my own thoughts, previous excitement forgotten. I decided I was waiting for Lacque to show up, to fill me in on the excitement of last night. But after waiting another half an hour, I gave up.

I pushed my seat back and glanced out past the windows, expecting to see rain. I was shocked to see a periwinkle sky in it's stead, with warm rays of sun lighting up the grass outside. The weather that was normally typical for the Spring Court seemed to have returned.

Immediately, my mood brightened and I decided that whatever will happen tonight, will happen.

I almost skipped away from the dinning room, until I remembered my bulging stomach. I settled for a more leisurely pace, and made my way outside.

The air still smelt slightly of rain, but the golden tint warmed my bones. Sometimes, I forget how much I missed the sun.
