Char [Foot in the Mouth]

"So, I'm guessing you got another note?"

Megan giggled, "What gave it away?"

"You are smiling nonstop since I saw you and you have asked me at least a dozen times if I've seen Harley even though we both know he never attends early morning classes," explained Jessica.

"Oh Jess, it just makes me so happy that Harley of all the people likes me to such an extent," Megan smiled.

Jessica muttered, "Yeah, I'm still shocked that he is capable of writing sweet notes."

"Here, read this," Megan shoved a blue note into Jessica's hands and waited expectantly till she read it.

"Oh my God," Jessica said, reading the note. "This is so sweet. I really find it tough to believe that Harley can write such beautiful things. He really likes you."

Megan sighed, dreamily, "You know how it is...every girl wants a bad boy who's good only to her."

"Really?" Jessica made a face. "I didn't."

Megan shook her head, "Subconscious desires, Jess. Besides, if Jacob wasn't a loser he'd make a bad boy."

"Please, Jacob is a cutie," Jessica defended, good-naturedly.

"Perhaps to you," Megan laughed. "For the rest of us he's this guy with a semi-permanent scowl who's shrouded in mystery. Find me one person apart from you who would disagree to that."

"Connor," Jessica said, triumphantly.

"Well, losers of a feather flock together," shrugged Megan.

"You're savage," said Jessica.

"Savagely beautiful, I've been told," and they burst laughing.

After some time, Megan got back to the subject of Harley, "So, I'm going to confront him today."

Jessica whistled, "You've been doing that a lot lately."

Megan nodded, "Mistress of my own fate, remember? I'm going to tell him that he needn't pretend like he's not the one writing the notes any more."

"And then?"

"Then he'll probably confess that he likes me and I'll say the same and together we'll go off into the sunset," Megan said.

"You're crazy, you know that?" Jessica laughed.

"I know," Megan laughed.

"Whatever happens I'm there for you," Jessica said in a supportive tone. "Should I hover around in the background when you 'confront' him?"

Megan giggled, "Thank you, Jess, but I'd seriously prefer to do it alone. Otherwise you two might get into an argument or something. I will call you with the details later on."

And this was how a very enthusiastic Megan met Harley behind the school auditorium.

He was alone, smoking a cigarette, leaning against the wall, circles of smoke rising against his blonde hair, eyes closed.

When he heard her approaching, he opened an eye, cigarette between teeth and scowled, "What?"

Megan frowned, "Well, hello to you too."

He dropped the cigarette and crushed it under his boot, "You came here to...?"

Megan had a huge temper. Everyone knew that and usually it was close to breaking point so it wasn't a huge surprise that she went from overwhemingly happy to violently angry in milliseconds. She walked up to him and took hold of his jacket collar, "Stop being an ass in front of me. It might work everywhere else but let me tell you I don't appreciate it."

Something indecipherable passed through his ocean blue eyes and he looked away, "Let go of me."

Megan did, not because he sounded downright dangerous but because she she was confused by his expression. She tried to calm down and held out the creased blue paper, "I came to talk about this and that I know it's you so you can stop pretending."
