One Week Later
The moon was a night light for the two teenager's that lied in the silence, that peaceful silence that people didn't dare to interrupt. Justin's body sprawled next to her's on the uncomfortable mattress of the hospital bed. But he didn't care how uncomfortable it felt, how it was hard and cold, all that mattered to him was the girl that clung to him for life. Katie's hand was gripping his shirt tightly, her head on his chest where she could easily hear his heartbeat that spluttered out of control every once in a while. Justin, out of instinct, smoothed out her lengthy mahogany locks, curling and twiddling with her hair often.
And suddenly, Katie pulled herself up and connected their lips in feather kisses while her hand gripped his smooth jawline. She tried to deepen the kiss, try to arouse him someway, but Justin vowed to not do that until he knew she was better. All better. Frustrated, Katie dropped her lips from his after he didn't respond-her confidence and ego and emotions bruised from his obvious unlikeliness.
"Katie-" he began.
"You're calling me Katie now? What ever happened to KadKad? What ever happened to kissing me, loving me? Ever since I woke up it's like I'm unattractive to you or something. You don't.. kiss me anymore."
"I kiss you all the time," Justin defended.
"On the forehead, on the cheek, on the hand. Anywhere but my lips. I need love, Justin! I've been in this hospital room for weeks and I.. you haven't even kissed me once on the lips. I'm sick, yes, but I don't have a disease. And I'm not even that sick anymore, they're just keeping me around in case I go into another-"
"In case you go into another coma. And I find you the most attractive girl I've ever seen, but when it comes to health and romance-health becomes first."
"I don't want it to be first anymore!" Katie shouted, tears threatening to spill from her eyes. "I want everything to be normal again. I want you to kiss me, love me-"
Justin intervened, kissing her passionately-bottling up all his emotions he'd felt for in those three weeks where not kissing her seemed unbearable into that one kiss. And he reassured her, he made the worries all go away, made all the horrid thoughts about him not loving her anymore to float away like an air balloon, destination cloud nine. With one simple kiss, she loved him all over again.
"I love you, Justin, and I'm afraid that one day you aren't going too back." Katie admitted, putting her heart on the table to be broken.
"KadKad," he breathed, resting his palm against her ample cheek, "don't you listen, gorgeous? I told you, I'll never let you go. Not even if Chaz Somers was to attempt to get you back, or if Caitlin ever tried to sling herself at me, or even if your Dad banned me from ever seeing you again or if your Mom pulled life support on you. I'll always gravitate back to you. You move, I follow. You're like the Sun," Justin motioned to me before pointing a thumb at himself, "and I'm the Earth, my whole being revolves around you."
Katie leaned up, grasping something that was in the heaps of "get well flowers." Slowly, she raised the locket, the locket which had been the one item that could only ever explain Justin's love for her when he could not.
"Je t'aime Justin," she whispered gently before crashing her lips onto his.
And this time-he kissed back.
