the day started out yellow
but as it went
a knot formed in the black pits of my stomach
and the day shifted
like a sun rising and falling on fast forward;
i watched my day turn
from orange,
to scarlet,
to a red ive never seen before.
not the neon of led signs
not the bright of tulips
even the wine of satin sheets could not compare
to the red, the true blood
red
that now scoured all vision
and hope
for my sunflower, lemonade, starlight day
turned bittersweet
