'Kayla, wake up!' Rose yelled next to my ear. I felt kind of drowsy when I sat up. I must have fallen asleep after I closed the Skype call with Ashton.
'I'm hungry!' Rose said.
'Go and make food,' I said back.
'But you know I can't cook without causing a fire,' she pouted.
'Alright, Alright,' I said sighting.
'By the way, Ash texted me today,' she said excited. I turned my head towards her, I didn't want him to know I lied.
'He asked me when I would come home,' she said.
'And why did he ask you that?' I asked pretending to be curious, but actually I was screaming inside.
'I don't know, I guess he would like to text me more or something,' Rose was happy. But I wasn't, I knew Ashton would call me later today to ask me why I lied to him. I slowly walked downstairs to make Rose some food, Rose was following me to the kitchen.
'Why did you leave school early today?' she asked me nicely.
'Sandcastle,' was all I said. "Sandcastle" was our code to tell the other one we don't want to talk about it.
'Okay, If there is something wrong,' She said.
'I know, I know, I have to come to you and talk about it,' I sighted. I grabbed some food out of the fridge and started cooking. A few minutes later my phone started ringing.
'I'll get it!' Rose yelled. Yeah yelled, she stood next to me but still, she yelled. She ran to the living room where my phone was. I concentrated on the food again while Rose was coming back to the kitchen.
'Kayla?' she asked when she returned.
'Yeah?' I answered her.
'Someone wants to talk about our house,' she said sadly. I already knew what was wrong.
'Hello, Kayla Jackson is speaking,' I said in the phone
'Hello miss Jackson, I would like to speak with you and you sister about the rent of your house since you have not paid it the last few months,' the voice said serious.
'Yeah, of course, would you like to visit us or do you want to discuss this on the phone?' I asked nicely.
'I would rather discuss this personally miss,' he answered.
'No problem, when do you want to discuss this?' I asked.
'As soon as possible,' he said.
'What about tomorrow? About 11 in the morning?'
'No problem,' He hung up and I sighed.
'Food's ready!' I yelled at Rose. We both ate in silence. When we finished our dinner Rose started talking.
'What was that phone call about?'
'We didn't pay our rent,' I sighed. Since our parents weren't here anymore we didn't have to pay our rent. Well that's what they told us, apparently they lied.
'We didn't have to pay right?' she asked.
'They said we wouldn't, but some people in this world are just cruel Rose,' I stated
'I guess you could say that,' she said sadly. 'And now?' she asked right away.
'I don't know Rose... I guess we have to use the money from mum and see if that's enough,' I answered.
'And if it isn't?' she asked again.
'If it isn't enough one of us should drop out of school to work I guess, it's not like we have some money left, and after this year I was going to work anyway, the money from mum wasn't going to be enough for 2 years anyway,' I said.
'Who said you were going to go to work? Why can't I go to work? My grades were never as good as yours anyway!' she yelled. I knew she would disagree.
'Rose, for god's sake, you are still a junior! I am a senior,' I stated.
'That's exactly why! You only need to finish this year! I need to finish two more years to graduate!'
'Rose! Why don't we wait with this discussion after we heard what that man has to say?' I asked her.
'When is he coming?' she asked me when she calmed down.
'Tomorrow at 11' I answered.
'You are not staying at home! You already skipped school today! No way you're going to skip tomorrow as well!' she sounded so angry.
'Well who's going to talk to him?' I asked back.
'I am! I just skip school until lunch and come after the talk,' she said. She's always so suborn when it comes to school.
'Why did you skip school? And don't "Sandcastle" me again,' she asked me.
'The teacher insulted me for being late and said our mum wasn't that important anymore so I shouldn't use her as my excuse, while I didn't use her as excuse, I just broke down I guess,' I looked down while I told her this. I was ashamed of what happened.
'Why didn't you tell me?' she asked hurt.
'Because I didn't want you to be even more concerned about me, you are very concerned when it comes to school and me and stuff and I just didn't want to get insulted for skipping school again,' I yelled.
'So you just talked to the boys instead of me? Your sister by blood? What? Am I not that important anymore?' she said even more hurt.
'You don't get it, do you? I f*cking hate school! I'd rather work myself to death than go to school every day,' I said sadly, that was the truth though.
'Why didn't you tell me?' she asked again.
'Because I knew you would just say I need to go to school and things like that,' I told her.
'Because that is exactly what you are going to do sis!' she said happily.
'Oh come on, one more year, you'll manage to graduate at the end of this year,' she said, trying to help me.
'Yeah, yeah, let's just forget this, shall we?' I asked. She nodded her head in agreement.
