I sighed and picked up my phone to call my dad. I had to let him know where I was petty much 24/7 or he would freak out and I didn't want him to worry.
Dad: "Hey honey, is everything okay?"
Me: "Yeah, everything's fine. I was just wondering if I could go over to a friend's house."
D: "Oh!"
I could hear the surprise in his voice and it made me roll my eyes. I knew he wasn't expecting that, but still, it kinda hurt to be reminded that no one ever invited me over.
D: "Sure! Just let me know where you are so I can pick you up. I don't want you walking home in the dark."
M: "Okay, thanks. I'll text you the address. Love you."
D: "Love you too, have fun."
I hit the end button and ran downstairs.Natalie was standing outside my front door, visibly shivering.
I ran to the door and let her in.
"Thank god!" She exclaimed, "It's colder than when you walk out of the shower with no towel on out there!"
I laughed half heartedly, and pulled my shoes on.
"You wanna stay inside and warm up for a bit?" I suggested.
She shook her head and a bunch of tiny snowflakes fluttered to the ground.
"You don't happen to have a car, do you?"
My face turned red. My dad had the car at his work, and we couldn't afford another one for me.
"No." I muttered.
"Well, let's get going before it gets any worse out there," she said, not seeming to care.
"Okay," I practically whispered.
She smiled at me and scrunched her forehead.
"What?" I said, suddenly feeling very self conscious.
"Nothing."
"Okay," I said again. It seemed as though that was the only thing I could manage to say at the moment. I grabbed my house keys from the counter and slipped them in my pocket, along with my phone and a few bucks just incase.
"Well," Natalie pronounced, standing like a soldier getting ready to go off the war, "here we go."
With that she threw open the door and we started walking towards her house.••••
I wish I brought a scarf, I thought as the wind whipped my face. I could feel myself getting wind burn.
I looked over at Natalie who appeared to be having even more trouble. My legs were longer than hers, even though not by much, and I was constantly stopping and waiting for her to catch up. She looked at me and turned around, starting to walk backwards. She laughed. Laughed. I could see her eyes watering from the wind, and she was laughing. I didn't understand that girl at all.
I smiled at her, and she walked closer to me so I could hear what she was saying. My heart started beating faster.
"Live a little!" She announced, before she linked her arm with mine, then spun me around so I was walking backwards as well. I could feel myself break into a sweat even though it must've been below zero. I turned to look at her, but she was to busy looking at her feet to notice me. I was staring at her when I tripped on something and fell over, dragging me down with her.
She landed on top of me and we both laughed.
Inside I was freaking out.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry!" I said, but she just laughed even more.
"Good thing I brushed my teeth today, normally I don't," Natalie avowed.
This should have caused me to laugh even more, but instead I just stared into her eyes.
I expected her eyes to be amazing. I expected them to look like a thousand laughs from the past, and a thousand more waiting to happen. But they didn't. They were just eyes. Maybe no one really had eyes like they say in books or movies because if any were to have the perfect eyes it would've been Natalie. I furrowed my brows, trying to make sense of everything that was going on inside my head. Why did I even care about her eyes?
I realized that I had been staring into her eyes for longer than socially acceptable.
"Sorry," I croaked, practically pushing her off me.
After that we walked in silence to her house. I could feel the snow on my back melting into water. I shivered, but not because of the water slowly turning to ice on my back.
I snuck the occasional glance at Natalie, but she just kept walking. She never once looked at me.
"Crap. What have I done?"Okay, so I'm really proud of this chapter, and I think it turned out really well. Please comment, vote, and follow! I love you all.
Ps. Have you ever looked into someone's eyes and thought they were the most beautiful thing ever?
Well, I haven't which kinda inspired the whole eyes thing. Quite frankly, I don't think I ever will. (I don't mean I'll be alone forever)
