The moon was our spotlight. The parking lot was our stage. The falling rain was our music, and he just walked away. Left me standing here by myself, soaking wet, and drove off into the night. I thought that tonight was perfect and we were doing great. Obviously I was wrong.
Now I had no way to get home and there was no way I was going to walk. It was too late for the bus and I didn’t have enough money left for a cab. Some night I was having. Slowly I started to walk back to the restaurant, but then I stopped. What were they going to do? Besides give me a pity look, nothing. There was nothing that they could do. Sighing, I fell to the ground. I was sitting in a puddle but it didn’t matter since I was already soaked. My dress was already ruined. I couldn’t make it worse.
“Hey, you okay?” A voice broke thru the rain.
I looked up into the most beautiful blue eyes I have ever seen before. I stood up and blushed a little. That was the last thing I ever wanted to be caught doing. Sitting in a puddle in a parking lot, classy Camille. Real classy.
“Yeah, I’m fine.” He gave me a skeptical look. “No really I’m…wet.”
He laughed and it was such a sweet sound. “Yeah, I noticed that. Need a ride?”
I hesitated. Yeah he had beautiful eyes and a sexy smile but I didn’t know him. Was I really going to take a ride from him? I looked away and thunder crashed, seconds later lightning hit. Yeah I was going to take that ride. What were the chances somebody I knew was going to come up and offer one? With my luck, zero.
“Thanks that would be amazing.” I say sweetly, smiling at him.
He takes my hand and leads me across the parking lot to a silver Range Rover. Once he opens the door I hesitate again. I drop his hand and back away, but only a little.
“Can I know one thing first?” I ask.
“Sure, anything you want to know.”
“What’s your name?” I feel stupid asking but I feel weirder getting into a car with someone whose name I didn’t know.
He laughs again and I swear my legs will turn to jelly if he keeps doing that. I mean how does he expect me to be able to talk to him when he has such a cute laugh?
“It’s Louis, and yours?”
“Camille.”
“Well Camille, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” He takes my hand back and kisses the back of it. I feel the heat rising to my cheeks again.
“I don’t know about it being a pleasure since it’s raining this hard.” I say getting into the car, but he only smiles and closes the door for me.
Once he’s in as well, he turns the car on and starts switching through the radio stations. Sitting there next to him I feel a little bad. I’m getting his car all wet, and he doesn’t even know me. It’s not like this is some lame car either. It looks like he bought it recently. What was I thinking?
“I’m sorry about getting your car wet.” I say softly.
He smiles at me, “Don’t worry about it. Now where do you want me to take you?”
I tell him my address and he types it into the GPS. Seconds later we’re on our way. Once we get to my place he stops and helps me out. Letting him go after he drove me home seems like the wrong thing to do. Plus I don’t think he should keep driving in this rain. Also his lips look really soft. Okay I know that really doesn’t matter but still they do.
“Uh…would you like to come in for a drink or something?”
“You don’t have to do anything for me.”
“But you drove me home, and it’s raining. Don’t like really bad things happen at night when it’s raining? Like you could die or something and…”
“Whoa, Camille slow down. What are you talking about?”
I blush, “I don’t know. Sorry for rambling.”
Louis laughs and I blush more. Instead of saying something else that would make me sound stupid I open the door and take his hand. He doesn’t fight as I pull him in my house. After the door is shut he shakes his head like a dog. I can’t help but giggle.
“What was that for?”
He smiles innocently, “You got my car wet.”
“You said it wasn’t a problem.”
“It’s not. The car will dry and so will your hallway.”
I want to yell at him but he smiles again. Why is that smile so mesmerizing? I’ve never been attracted to someone’s smile before. At least not like this. Taking his hand again I lead him further into my house and to the couch.
“Can I ask you something?” He says suddenly.
“Sure, what?”
He sits down and pulls me down next to him. He wraps an arm around me, pulling me closer not seeming to care that I’m wet.
“Why were you waiting out there? I mean you are dressed up so nice and that’s not usually the place one goes to alone.”
“You’re right it’s not and I didn’t. I went with my boyfriend Aaron, but he dumped me and drove off. What were you doing there?”
“Business dinner.” He said quietly. “Why would he do that to you? You’re beautiful and you obviously care a lot. I could be a killer or something and you let me inside because you didn’t want me driving in a little rain.”
“Okay three things. One, I have no idea why. Two, are you trying to tell me to kick you out and three that’s a lot of rain.”
He laughed his perfect little laugh once again and brushed my hair away from my face.
“Okay it might be a lot of rain and I won’t hurt you,” he stopped for a second like he was thinking about something. “At least not tonight.”
He started laughing again and I giggled. We kept talking about whatever came to our minds. He was so sweet and funny. Although, he did seem to avoid the question of what he did for a living. I could hear the rain slowing down but I didn’t say anything about it. I didn’t want Louis to leave quite yet.
I woke up to a light snore and my head on someone’s chest. Tilting my head back a little I saw Louis face. He was still asleep with this cute little smile on his face. I laid there in the silken until his phone rang. He slowly woke up as I went to get it for him.
“Thanks Camille,” he said before talking to whoever it was.
I went to the kitchen to give him privacy and to start making my morning tea. About five minutes later he came in.
“Hey sorry I fell asleep last night.”
“It’s okay. Anyways I think I fell asleep first.”
He laughed, “Yeah you did. Listen I would love to stay but I have to go to work, maybe someday later this week we could, like go to dinner or something? I promise I’ll treat you right and not like that arse you called your boyfriend.”
I giggled a little and gave him my number. After he left I sat down in a chair and drank some of my tea. I can’t actually believe myself right now. I just let some stranger stay at my house and then I gave him my number and said I’ll go out with him. What is wrong with me? Am I really going to go on this date? I thought about his laugh, smile and eyes. Yeah I think I will go out with Louis if he ever calls.
