Isis was ready for the day to be over. Every weekend for a month she had gone on dates and every one of them was a bust. She was tired of meeting new people just to find out that they weren't compatible or that the guy was still in a relationship.
The only bright spot was that she had become fast friends with Grant. They both loved RPGs, tabletop games, and weird, low budget scifi movies. He easily fit in when Isis, Sam, Hathor, and Jamie went out and he was a blast to dance with.
Isis was sitting in the teachers lounge, waiting for someone to come in so she could have some adult interaction. She heard the door open and saw Grant walk in with a woman she had never seen before. Grant smiled at Isis and she felt her heart flutter.
"Hey Isis. What are you doing?" Grant walked to the fridge and grabbed his lunch.
"Just eating and being bored. Its like no one eats in here anymore," Isis responded.
Grant sat down next to Isis while the mystery woman heated up her lunch.
"Its towards the end of the year. I think everyone wants peace and quiet while they can." Grant tried to grab one of Isis' potato chips, but she swatted his hand before he could.
"You're probably right. I would be in my room right now, but the kids would try to follow me inside." Isis turned towards the new woman who had sat down next to Grant.
"I'm sorry, someone should have introduced us. I'm Isis." She held out her hand to the stranger.
"Shit I'm sorry. Jill this is Isis. Isis, this is my sister Jill. She was hired to fill Ms. Dupont's position."
Jill shook Isis' hand. "It's nice to meet you. I've heard a lot about you, but apparently my brother has not mentioned me. Way to make me feel bad." Jill lightly punched Grant on the arm and they both laughed.
Isis smiled. There was no doubt that Jill and Grant were related. Not only did they have the same eyes and dark hair, their mannerisms were also similar. It was easy to see that they were close.
"So that means you teach shapeshifters how to fit in with the human world right? Is this your first teaching position?" Isis asked.
Jill nodded. "I subbed a little bit in traditional schools. My major was in Biology, but I've always wanted to teach other shapeshifters."
"Enough about you," Grant interrupted, winking at his sister. He turned to Isis. "What are we doing tonight?"
Isis sighed. "I have two dates to go on after school, but once those are over Sam wants us to come over and watch movies or something. She'll probably make us watch Misfits again."
"Do you know what time we're supposed to be there," Grant asked.
"I think around 8." Isis looked at Jill. "Would you like to join us? We can maybe convince her to let us play Cards Against Humanity."
Jill beamed. "I would love too. I haven't had a girls night in forever."
"All right," Isis said. She looked at her watch. "I have to check my box, but if you have any questions about anything, let me know. I'll see y'all tonight."
Jill and Grant waved at Isis as she left.
Jill smirked. "Now I see why you talk about her all the time."
"What do you mean?" Grant furrowed his eyebrows.
Jill ticked off her fingers. "Your face lights up when you see her, you hang onto every word she says, and you stare at her when you think she isn't looking. You're not foolin' anyone."
