6: Running

I walk up to the main doors and walk in. I run to the vault and step in. Vernon and Cora look at me. I nod, I know what's going to happen. Hectolite, or Moonstone, it scatters moonlight. Derek's gonna break through the wall and the three of us will lose it. I'll probably have some control, enough to stop Cora and Boyd if I have to. Cora smiles at me, she's been waiting to see Derek for years. I look at the wall where they'll come in from and stand still. I hear them get closer. I brace myself for the shift and let it take over when the wall breaks.

"Cora?"

"Derek, run, go get out of here!"

"Cora?"

"You know her!?!"

"She's my sister, my younger sister! I thought she died in the fire!"

Two roars accompany mine as I step into the light. Vernon and Cora attack them and I try to bring them off. I look over my shoulder at Allison.

"Boyd!" She yells breaking the seal. Cora and Boyd run out the vault and I slowly gain control.

"You idiot!" I yell at her. "Now they'll kill the whole town!"

"You wanna blame me! Well I'm not the one turning teenagers into killers."

"No, that's just the rest of your family."

"Gerard was not my fault."

"Yeah well what about your mother?" Derek steps in.

"What do you mean?"

"Tell her Scott." I say just before walking out.

I run after them, control fading quickly. I jump over a tree limb and keeping going. My claws and fangs extend and I growl, but continue running. My feet pound against the ground, Vernon and Cora just in front of me. I push myself faster and run along with them. The moon takes me over. I feel humanity get further and further away. I jump into a tree and jump from tree to tree. Scott pulls Boyd off two kids catching fireflies. California doesn't have bioluminescent fireflies. It has to be supernatural. I jump down and run with Boyd, throwing Scott away. I hear Derek howl and my humanity slowly tries to crawl back. Clouds move away from the moon and the animosity becomes elite. I run up to the school and crash into Isaac. I slash his chest and he dodges. We fight continuously until a flash arrow goes into the door. I glance up at Allison and run into the building. In the boiler room, there's a teacher. I run at her when Derek growls at me. I slash his chest. He doesn't fight back. He takes it from all three of us.

"The sun's coming up! Scott! The sun's coming up!"

I feel humanity crawl back. My body shifts back and I slowly walk out. Scott runs up to me and wraps his arms around me. He picks me up and spins me around. He puts me down and I look up at Isaac and Boyd. Cora stands by Boyd with her arms crossed. Scott nods and I run to Boyd. I jump and wrap my arms and legs around him. He holds me tight.

"Hey Jane." He whispers.

"Hey Vernon." I say.

He puts me down and I grin widely. I look at Cora and give her a hug. I think about how Derek told me about when she was happy and I feel her smile. I glance at Isaac and think about when we were together. He grabs my arm and wraps his around me.

"Tell Isaac that he was a good friend for me."
