Chapter 4: losing the thing you care most about

Gerard's pov:

I just stand there.

Not moving, not blinking, nothing.

I didn't mean to hurt her feelings, but why would she say that?

I just care... a lot, and it hurts to see her like this. she doesn't deserve it.

I hear her father walk in and I snap back into reality.

"Sofia!" he yells

She doesn't answer.

"Sofia?" he says and walks up the stairs pass me and over to her room, I follow.

You can hear soft crying from inside. oh shit...

"Sofia, are you ok?" he asks

"I'm fine" she says her voice shaky

"You sound like your crying?" he says "what happened?"

"I-I just want to be alone..." she says

He sighs "okay... ill call you when dinners ready" he says backing away with a worried look laced with sadness in his eyes

I know he's scared too, that is his daughter.

I watch as he goes down the steps and then the phone rings he answers it.

"Hello?" he asks

"Oh... wait? what! no- is she- but she was- how-.... okay.... ill tell her" he hangs up and falls to the floor and vets into his hands

'What happened?' I ask myself

"Dad?" I hear Sofia's voice chime out as she walks pass me going down stairs to her broken father

"Dad what's wrong?" she says putting a hand on his back and rubbing

"Your... Ummm, m-mother she.."

"What? what happened!" she starts to panic

He stands up and holds her shoulders "sweetie, your mother passed away last night..." he says

I feel my chest burn up like someone lit a flame inside me.

'No!' I start to tear up myself

"H-how!" she starts to panic choking on her own tears

"She apparently had really back cancer... I don't know why she didn't tell us" he says

She backs away as more tears fall from her eyes and she's shaking.

She runs out the door.

"Sofia!" he yells and try's to stop her but she is already out of sight

I run out and start looking for her.
