Hours passed. That became days. Days became weeks. Months started going by and Rose started showing. Not only that, she was feeling less and less like a guardian each day. She became unsettled in her barely established routine.

After Dashkov's trial, things really started getting bad for her. I hated the look she wore each morning. She dreaded going to work. And I despised the expression she wore when she came home each night. She loathed her job. And it had nothing to do with stares and not-so-quietly-shared rumours. She hated our lifestyle with a vengeance.

"How does anyone raise a family in this god-forsaken society!" she screeched while lounging across my sofa. "I just can't see it ever working."
"Then get packing," I whispered, "If it's getting you this bad, we're getting our family out of here." She was eighteen, as of yesterday. She could make her own choices. I knew leaving Lissa would rip a part of her out. But the look in her eyes told me she'd sacrifice everything for our baby. Except me.
"But your job?"
"I don't want it when it's making you miserable. Let's pack. We leave tonight. Sound feasible?"
"I can't love you more, thank you!"

We were States away by the beginning of the next Academy day. We weren't leaving the country. Yet. We likely shouldn't be bothered from society ever again. But with Rose's link to Lissa, who knows.

This had to be the most impulsive thing Dimitri had ever done: quit his job and run away with me... and our baby, for our baby. I knew how much he loved his job, how much hard work and dedication he put into it. I knew how much he sacrificed for it. Now he was sacrificing it for our baby, so our baby could have the family he deserved. I hoped Dimitri knew what the hell he was doing and that he and I could get another job.

"NO. No way in hell, Comrade! I'm not letting you put yourself in danger of slutty bitches." I don't even know why he'd apply for the job of a nightclub bouncer. But I bet he didn't get the offer because of his skills. I bet the boss had a daughter who wanted him and what Daddy's Princess wanted, Daddy's Princess got. Selfish...! There's a million names I wanted to call her.
Dimitri's eyes shone with hurt. "You don't trust me?"
"You, I trust. It's those sluts that flirt with the bouncer I don't trust, Comrade! And what about Junior, huh? What about those hours impacting your bonding time with Junior before and after he's born? You're going to be sleeping while I'm working! We'll never see each other."

Yes, I had managed to secure a job as a waitress, as shit as the pay was. Although... a security company had said they wanted me once I was ready to put Junior in day care. There was someone important looking for a bodyguard exactly like me. Apparently. And they were willing to let me only do day hours and have an RDO. I'd, stupidly enough because the pay was a hundred times better, told the boss to keep me mind. I still hadn't told Dimitri of that little detail yet and now was more reluctant than ever with the news of his job offer.

"Roza, honey, the pay is brilliant and the hours are short—I did tell them I was an expectant father, that a part of my agreement would be getting enough family time."
I groaned and collapsed into his lap on the love-seat. "Fine. Go risk sluts throwing themselves at you. See if I care. As long as you're in MY bed again before breakfast."
Dimitri chuckled, rubbed the bump Junior was creating and kissed my head. "I love it when you get all possessive of me and jealous."
I groaned in frustration. He was unstoppable sometimes. And a part of me couldn't deny that I loved it.
