To start the day off we went out into the orchard and spent a while picking apples. Eventually I decided to throw my shoe up into the tree to try and get some of the apples from the higher branches down. But instead, it ended up getting stuck. Thomas laughed, but then climbed up into the tree and threw down a couple apples and my shoe. I smiled as he came down and hugged me while giving my cheek a soft kiss. Thomas and I continued walking until we came to a tree with large red juicy apples dangling from its branches. The temptation to take one seemed to pull me towards the tree. Thomas gripped my hand and tried to pull me away. He looked me in the eyes and held my shoulders still, "Hannah promise me, you won't take any of the apples of that tree, you can have any other apple but none from that tree." He said pointing to the lively tree behind me. I faked a smile "of course Thomas" and kissed his cheek pulling him to the next tree. What was so bad about that tree it was just an apple tree, it had the best apples, and I wanted just one. So all I needed to do was, once Thomas fell asleep tonight I could go out and get just one. I didn't see why it was such a big deal.
That night while Thomas was knee deep in dreams I snuck out and grabbed myself an apple. I ran back upstairs and slipped back into bed without Thomas noticing. I cleaned it on my gown and smiled taking a large bite out of it. It had tasted so good until I felt a splintering pain shoot threw my bones. I screamed the pain surging threw every inch of my body. The scream had awoken Thomas and he had his arms wrapped around me holding me still but what he didn't know was that his touch caused me even greater pain. The apple slipped from my hand and onto the floor. Thomas saw it and grabbed it chucking it out the window. The pain had now transferred from my bones to my heart, I saw the hatred in Thomas eyes and that was enough to kill me. I didn't know if I was dead or unconscious, all I knew was that I had done something wrong and I was paying for it.
