Sitting in my bare living room, I didn't bother putting up the Christmas tree after my last boyfriend broke up with me just before the holidays. I was too depressed thinking that I thought he would be the one, but he didn't like the slow-pace or fast-pace whatever his damn words were about our relationship so it was ended. New year's has come and gone and it was already January fourteen and while I had my job that I love, I managed to work in my depressed state but I kept thinking that maybe I need to go somewhere else for a while and get out of Portland.
After placing my two week notice of unemployment, I figure that I would just go somewhere for a while. I walked into my bedroom and I just started packing clothes and all the items that I would need, but I still had to determine where I was going to go.
Seattle . . . Emelia.
It was settled I decided that it was time for a change in scenery and visit my cousin Emelia who lives in Seattle have always told me what a great city it was. It's been a couple years since her and I have talked but she had always said that she would like me to come visit her in Seattle. So I probably ended up packing a couple weeks' worth of clothes and hit the open road. Of course my car is a piece of junk, as I scrap of the thin ice on my windshield with my ice scraper while the car was barely heating up.
It was about a three hour drive, plus the snow was just lightly falling so the roads weren't bad as I entered Seattle, the first thing I wanted to do was grab some hot coffee. God the heat in this car was a disgrace, I stopped at Starbucks and ordered the Gingerbread Latte god I love the Starbucks winter drinks. It's almost impossible to choose! After getting my fixed of caffeine I had forgotten where Emelia's bar was located in Seattle so I had to look up the Knight Owl bar although I did recall her saying that business was in a slump so I don't know if it is in business anymore.
As Google completed it search on The Knight Owl, I was surprise that it was listed as one of the top five bars in Seattle . . . But at least I now know where the address was 970 East Porter Street. As I pulled up to the Knight Owl, the sign said CLOSED but I have no doubt that Emelia is in there working on something. I walked into the bar and one of the waitress greeted me, as I gaze around the bar I see that Emelia must have gotten some very good luck on some restoration inside the bar thus keeping the layers intact.
"What can I get ya?" the waitress whose name tag read Renee, she definitely fit the bar scene
"Is Emelia Hudson here?" I asked as Renee said that Emelia isn't in yet, her meeting must have run a little late . . . A meeting? With who? Investors? But Renee asked if there was anything that she could get for me as I gaze at the menu that was placed in front of me and told her that I would have the garlic fries.
"Coming right up" she said and Renee brought the fries out rather quick as I munch on a few, then heard the door opened and walked in Emelia.
Emelia stood in her foot when she looked at me in shock,
"Chloe?" she smiled before rushing toward me as we hug each other,
"Hey cuz" I said as we both continue to hug each other, then Emelia pulled away first and starting asking a gazillion questions,
"What are you doing in Seattle? When did you get here?" she said still beaming, as I told her that I needed a change in scenery and decided why not Seattle. Emelia gestured me toward her office area as she pulled off her winter coat, she was wearing a typical winter sweater with a scarf to accent the colors.
"So how long are you in town for?" she asked as I sat down in one of the chairs, I told her that I'm not sure just kind of making it up as I go. She turned on her computer and then her phone went off as she quickly pulled it out of her purse, she smiled at a text message I assume and that when I knew there was someone in her life, thankfully it wasn't the guy she was dating before that asshole that eloped with a stripper the night before her wedding. She place her phone down as I said
"So who's the lucky guy?" I smirked at her as she laughed saying that his name was Drake and that he's the best thing she could ever have. Yeah let's just hope he doesn't break her heart like the last guy did, I actually laughed at the thought that both me and Emelia have had bad luck with guys because they're not honest but the way she smiles tells me that he's the real deal . . . I hope.
"So what's new with you aside from that you're in town for a couple days" she asked as I told her that not much is going on back home, just the same old same old. Recent breakup, need to get away that kind of thing.
"So I was wondering since my coming here was a spur of the moment, I was thinking if maybe I could stay with you at your apartment . . ." Emelia's face suddenly changed,
"Um I'm actually living with Drake now."
"Okay I'll just crash on the couch, it shouldn't be a big deal right?"
"Well because it is so sudden, I would have to ask him but I could get you and hotel in the meantime" Emelia's words kind of shook me, was she really not letting me stay at hers and Drake's place? But I guess maybe it's their privacy so I'm not going to nudge but that makes me even more curious about whom this Drake guy was.
"Trust me Chloe, you would be staying with us but because I wasn't aware that you were coming Drake and I would have more time to prepare for guests" She smile lightly as she got up and look for a file in her filing cabinet, I guess I wasn't going to argue so I took her offer of getting me a hotel to stay at. Renee came knocking and told Emelia that her eleven o'clock client was here, she looked at me as I got up. I told her that we can catch up later as we both walked out of the office Emelia quickly gave me her cell phone number as I did the same.
When we walked out of the office, I caught a glimpse of the client he was in a three piece suit. Emelia's bar must have really taken off in a good direction in the last couple months.
Figuring out where to go next since Emelia was clearly busy, I thought about visiting Pike's market place the most popular market in Seattle. The scenery that Seattle gave a was a different change from Portland, maybe I could start new around here since there's really isn't any reason for me to go back to Portland. I'm not even sure if I want to go back, when I managed to find a parking spot I quickly stepped out in the chilly weather and browse.
I made a few produce purchases since I didn't really bring any food with me, not that I needed to or didn't think I needed to. I grab a news ad and skim through it trying to figure out how much it would cost to live here, maybe I could buy an apartment but rent weren't cheap.
I look for jobs opening but even that was slim picking, I groan thinking maybe I couldn't do it. I just wonder if Emelia still even have her old apartment, I'm crossing my fingers that she does.
Emelia texted me saying that hotel arraignment have been made and that she would like to have dinner tonight at the hotel around six if that was alright. I told her that six was fine with me, and then she responded that she needed to get some work done before dinner.
