5:56pm
"Which one? The green or the pink?" Jane asked, holding up two different dresses. She's getting ready for a night out with her boyfriend.
I lay on her bed, texting Daniel, "The green is more Christmas, but the pink makes you look thinner."
She nodded, disappearing back in her wardrobe.
D: You know what I'm doing right now?
S: What?
D: Reading a book about anti-gravity. I can't put it down.
I let out a little snigger. S: Aw that wasn't funny.
D: Oh yeah? Well I WOULD tell you a chemistry joke, but now I know I won't get a reaction.
I giggled this time. S: Give me more.
D: You like that? Wanna know why Snoop Dogg carries an umbrella?
S: Why?
D: Fo' drizzle.
I burst out laughing this time, holding the pillow to my face. He's absolutely ridiculous, but he always makes me smile.
Jane walked out wearing the pink dress, "What's so funny?"
I put a hand to my chest, breathing, "Daniel, he just...yeah."
Jane's expression changed as she blew out an exasperated breath, "You two are crazy. If I didn't know you were friends, I'd assume you were dating."
My laughs subsided as I raised an eyebrow at her, "What? What do you mean? We're not dating!" I put my phone on the floor, frowning at her, "Can't a guy and a girl be best friends without being assumed of things?"
Jane held her hands up in surrender, a small smile on her face, "Don't get all defensive!" she turned to her vanity, pulling out foundation, "Forget I said anything."
We were silent for a few moments. I never in my life thought of Daniel as anything more than a friend. We're close, but not romantic. And he doesn't feel that way about me either. Definitely not.
"Besides," I said aloud. I grabbed my phone and opened Facebook, getting Joe's profile, "I'm with this guy right now." I showed her my phone.
She glanced at the photo, "He's cute," she said nonchalantly.
"We kissed and we're seeing each other tomorrow night."
She shrugged and turned back to the mirror, "Okay," she started to apply lipstick, "Is Daniel coming?"
"Yeah."
"Mm."
I stared at her in the mirror, "He can drive, so..."
She nodded, standing up straight, "I know," she leaned an elbow on my shoulder, staring at our reflections. We have similar faces, only her eyes are green, not dark like mine.
After a few moments, she shoved her makeup in her drawer and turned away, grabbing her purse, "I'll be heading off then."
"Have fun!"
"Bye."
As she left I grabbed my phone and looked at Daniel's texts.
D: Did you laugh? I bet you did.
D: Where'd you go? Heeellloooo.
D: Don't make me start singing.
D: You asked for it.
D: You used to call me on my cell phone.
