Beyond the cavern

The start

"Hey Elliot you coming" Mac yelled getting the gear ready for the mines. My co workers came with me towards the massive hole in the ground. It looked like every other cavern I've seen but it still frightened me just the same.
We just had to make a simple repair to the generator the previous miners left behind but even then it was just as scary. I looked into the dark abyss until we hooked up and grappled down the cave. It felt like years going into the cold wet cave . Looking around you can see the fungus and water streaming throughout the entire cavern.
The second we touched the ground the cave made loud echoes and loud growls. "Let's make this quick. I don't want to be in here long. Jean grab the tools get working in the corner. Mac you go deeper in and see what you can find." "Hey Elliot" Jean called out. Jean was the new guy. He didn't talk much but he was a sweet kid. "Can you help me carry the tools." "Sure. You scared kid" I asked. "A little. Im not used to this stuff. I grew up with a masters degree in biology. Who would have guessed I would wind up here but it was the only opportunity I have to study what's down here. It will be ok though." It's good to think like that Jean. But it may not be true." I said. "I know we will be fine." He said with a confident tone . "Think what you want kid but luck runs out. It always has." I gave him the tools and went to work. "Elliot get over here!" Sean said. As soon as I got over he said. "Elliot you'll stay near the ropes and watch the new kid." He said. "What! I don't want to watch the new kid. I can be a bigger help."I said " After what happened last year you should take my advice. You knew what happened and you knew you were responsible for it so cut it out." Sean said. "Don't bring that in this! That was tragic time that you have no right of speaking about!" Your the reason we have a new guy so you shouldn't be complaining.If you wanna help you got prove your worth and from what I've seen you don't have anything Elliot your just like your brother.""Fuck you Sean!"Then a loud echo hovered throughout the cave then was silence.all of us were staring at Jean who had a horrified look on his face. What have you done" Sean muttered.Cracks started appearing where Jean was working. The cracks spread through out the entire wall.He let out a scream and ran towards the rope. Rocks started coming of the wall covering exits. "Mac! Get up here hurry!" Sean screamed. Jean was climbing the rope. While he was half way up the rope snapped. He fell 20 feet down to the cold hard ground letting out a scream of pain. I rushed out to grab him but a rock came down between us. We were trapped.I was stuck with Sean in the lower section of the cave. I looked at him and I saw the same look I saw on the new kids face.Fear.
