-June POV-

I woke up and there was complete silence. It seemed like it was still night because it was so dark but you can never be too sure when it is morning when there is a huge wall right beside you. I got up and walked over to my dresser. I opened the draws and pulled my most comfortable clothes out. I pulled them on, stepped outside and it looked as though it was midday. "Crap!" I shouted as I ran towards the main building. I walked in late and everyone was there. I groaned as both Millie and Frankie laughed at me for arriving so late. Most people were sitting and eating lunch in groups but I did not have the honor of eating. I was going to have to work twice as hard and probably long into the night to make up for arriving late. I sat at my desk which was squished between a girl called Grace and Frankie and began typing in my Email. While it loaded I leaned over to Frankies desk. I checked what work I had to complete. I realized that for now Millie and Frankie will be each getting a third of my work so there isn't as much to do as usual. I focused on my working and went through each task in order.

I was done by the time everyone else finished so it wasn't shameful when I left. I walked back with the girls to our dorm. I quickly got changed and clambered into bed before shouting a half-hearted "Sweet dreams!" to my friends. I received two, hardly understandable, "Good night!"s. I closed my eyes and slowly drifted into a calm sleep.

I woke up to the sound of quiet cries. After getting out of bed and pulling down my oversize tee shirt, in which I was sleeping in, I walked towards the foreign sound. I realized where it was coming from. "Frankie?" I whispered, leaning in close.
"No nono. NO! No, please don't do it! Please! Get away! Nonono!" She cried.
I hushed her, telling her "Frankie wake up! Its just me! Everything is okay!" I felt like crying too, seeing my friend so distressed. "Frankie?" I said, louder. "Frankie!" I almost shouted.
She sat bolt upright with tears running down her cheeks. I sat up on the bed with her and wrapped myself around her body. "Its okay now, its okay, I am here." I murmured into her shoulder.
We sat cuddled together for about five minutes, slowly rocking backwards and forwards.
She squeezed me tightly before leaning back and whispering with a small smile on her face, "I think I am okay now. What time is it?"
I had never noticed how frail she looked until now with that weak smile on her face. "Its..." I checked my watch "... three in the morning"
Frankie sighed deeply. "You can go back to bed if you want." She muttered before laying herself back.
I smiled and pulled the blankets up and climbed into the bed with her. "I'll stay here with you." I concluded, a huge smile plastered on my face.
"Whatever" She muttered before rolling over. I caught a glimpse of a smirk on her face before all I could see was her long chocolate brown hair. I put my head onto the pillow and closed my eyes. I couldn't stop thinking about what she had been crying about. Did she miss home? She probably wouldn't be yelling get away if that was all it was. Had she had something taken from her by the Common? That was a possibility.

When I opened my eyes I got a bit of a fright about not being in my room before remembering last night. I rolled over and found... Nothing. No Frankie. Was I late, again? I thought to myself. I checked my watch, it read 8:21. I don't even usually get up this early, I have until about 10 to get to the office. Where was Frankie? I pulled the blankets off myself and stomped to my room. I pulled the thin curtains away and looked at the absolutely magnificent view of the wall. It looked dark outside, as it always did while looking at the dull grey wall with small bumps covering it, like goose bumps.

I walked from my room to Millie's, from Millie's room to the large lounge/dining area, in which we don't spend much time, from the large lounge to the bathroom. That's when I hear the running water in the shower. I let out a deep sigh and walked back to my room. I checked my phone as I went and sat on my bed, it was 8:32.

Once Frankie had gotten out of the shower I decided I might as well take a shower too. I pulled some clothes from my drawers and walked to the bathroom. Running the hot water I removed my night clothes. I pulled out a razor and my shampoo and conditioner and put everything on the small shelf in the shower, as the now warm water slowly ran over my arm. I stepped into the slow running stream of water and was suddenly extremely relaxed and de-stressed. I didn't even realise that I was stressed in the first place. I hummed a rhythm as I scrubbed my legs before shaving them. Yes I still shave, I like how they feel when they're smooth. I shampooed and conditioned my hair before quickly rinsing off and drying myself. I checked the time, 8:57. I had spent about 20 minutes in the shower but I still had about an hour to waste. I went back to my room and grabbed my favourite classic book series: A Game of Thrones. I spent a good 45 minutes reading before I decided it would be a good time to start heading to the office.

I noticed as I sat down at my desk that there was a new recruit, newer than me, newer than Millie and Frankie. Brand new. Her hair was brown, almost black, like the old bark of a tree. Her eyes were like rich dark chocolate. Her skin was beautiful. Her skin was a light brown but darker than most people who were currently here. She smiled at me as she noticed me looking at her and I smiled back and somehow her smile grew more. I looked at all the people around her, they were staring and snickering. I stood up and walked into Sir's office. "I want the new recruit to sit next to me. Where Grace is sitting now. Please." I demanded to Sir.
"Why would I do that?" Sir growled, but he sounded amused.
"All the other people around her are being judgemental and making her uncomfortable. I'm sure Grace would be happy to move!" I cheerfully announced.
"I'll ask if the girl, Briar Rose I assume, if she would like to move next to you, ask Grace if she would be okay with moving first and then come see me." Sir smiled.
I walked out of the room proudly. "Hello! I am June, nice to meet you! What's your name?" I beamed to the girl that I was told name is Briar Rose.
"I am Briar Rose. June is a beautiful name! Nice to meet you too!" Briar Rose exclaimed happily.
"Thank you! Briar Rose is a beautiful name as well!" I smiled before walking back to my desk. "Hey Grace!" I chirped. "How are you?"
"I.. Uh I'm fine. How are you?" Grace said quietly turning to me.
"I am pretty good!" I said, overly cheery. "Hey Grace?"
"Yes June?" She muttered.
"Would you be okay if you swapped desks with someone?" I whispered just enough for her to hear.
"Who?" She answered, sounding more interested.
"Her!" I pointed to Briar Rose.
Grace looked at the people sitting near where Briar Rose is. "Yeah, I'd be happy to move!" She smiled.
I stood up, put my hand out for Grace to shake and she shook it. "Nice doing business with you!" I laughed before walking back to Sir's office. "She said yes!" I shouted gleefully.
"Okay I will get them to stay after and move them tonight." Sir mumbled and went back to his work.

I was laying in my bed, reflecting on the day. I made a new friend, I finished today's work and I am now going to have a really good sleep. I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep almost instantly. I dreamed about what it was like before realising who I really was. Before things became... Complicated.
