The Quarry was the most beautiful thing Naenia had ever seen. It paled in comparison to the likes of Eden, but it still looked nice. The water glowed below. She wasn't sure what made it do that, but it eliminated some of the eerie, yet beautiful shadows that loomed in scenery. They all continued to walk and sing. Big Sis waved her slingshot around, but she heard noises. She stopped and directed everyone to "sshh! Listen."
Some faint voices bounced off the walls. They spoke in a rough, harsh sort of manner. Suddenly, Kent was the first to say, "I'm scared guys."
"Oh relax. We'll be fine. Like I said before, they won't even know we're here."
They all snuck behind a rock and looked over the edge of one of the high boulders overlooking a glowing pond. They spotted two men walk up as one of them snorted a few times before spitting a wad into the pond. The children all turned up their noses.
"Oh disgusting." Big Sis was the first to whisper.
"Hey, look. People wasn't lyin' about this thing stays clean. It just made my spit disappear!"They could barely see, but from what the pond illuminated, they spotted the two men. One of them looked over into the pond his pimply face was wide open in amusement.
"Wow, would'ja look at that. This must be that Purity Fountain everybody was talking about. She's a beaut."
Big Sis shuffled around as Larrus tried to overlook her.
"Oww Big Sis! You're crushing me!"
"Well, you need to move your giant head!"
Their sharp whispers stabbed through the air like needles.
"Guys! Keep quiet! They'll hear us!" Naenia warned.
"This place is so beautiful, yet, it kinda gives me the creeps in a way. You know what I mean?" Kent asked.
"Yeah." Larrus replied.
"Um hmm." Naenia pitched in.
"Really gives me the creeps."
Suddenly, they spotted a group of fireflies in the distance. They floated throughout the dark cavern. The small, luminous balls of light floated throughout the area. No, not fireflies. These balls of light emitted laughter...
"Wow! Fairies?!" Naenia whispered, but caught herself almost whispering too loudly.
"Yeah, they watch over the Quarry. Pretty neat, huh?" Big Sis pointed out.
"Yeah."
"Whoa, that's cool."
One of them floated towards Naenia as the light blinded her. She reached out to touch its warm, glowing frame. She looked like a girl, but a drastically smaller version of the average height. All of the children gawked at the small girl. Her wings kept batting in rapid pace to keep her afloat.
"I always wanted to capture one." Kent said, never taking his eyes of the sight before them.
"Hey, what are y'all doin' here? A buncha kids?!"
A loud voice boomed and echoed throughout the caverns, startling the four of them. They all turned to face a third bandit.
"Hey, I said, what are y'all doin' out here?"
"Um, we were just looking. That's all."
"Hey, guys. Guess what we got. Some kids, and they were just lookin' 'round."
