Leon's eyes flickered open to see lights blurring his vision. He heard rattling noises... familiar. He jumped up, hitting his head on something. Then his memory flooded back. He was in some sort of cage, separated from Clover.

Rubbing his head with his paw, he looked through the opening of the cage. It was daytime. Maybe that other wolf was still around here somewhere. Through the noise, he called out to her.

"Hello? Are you still there?" He waited a few heartbeats. No answer. He decided to try again.

"Anyone?" He called, this time louder. After a few moments, he heard a muffled whimper.

"Who's there?" She called, voice shaking. Suddenly, his little world started to rattle. It heaved up and down; Leon tried to gain balance, but instead his flailing legs thumped against the enclosed box walls. The cage toppled and crashed around, wherever he might be. The cage's weaved wire at the opening started to bend and twist, making loud screeching noises. Leon was being thrashed around like a tree's leaves on a windy day.

Through all the commotion, he could hear the other wolf yelping. Her cage had tumbled away as well. Leon couldn't tell if he too was barking for help. After one last painful jolt, the cage halted to a stop, landing sideways. Leon scrambled around his small space and tried to get an idea of which way was up...

He noticed his fur was matted and messy, his body ached with pain, and there was a large gash stretching along his foreleg. Leon guessed it was from the wire, now instead of neatly woven it was sticking out in various places. Thankful to be alive, he still couldn't get rid of the thought that he possibly could never get out.

Weak with tiredness, Leon plopped down, panting. The hard, cold sides of the cage made it harder to fall asleep. Finally, he let the thoughts on his mind go, and he closed his eyes to meet a dreamless sleep.

* * * * *

Leon jumped up, bumping his head yet again. He glanced around his cage and noticed a gap was clawed out by something... maybe it made an opening for him to squeeze through. Leon started to step through, feeling his fur tugging on the wire. He pulled with his forelegs and slipped right through. It didn't help that he was achy, but now he was free.

Leon noticed another few cages sprawled  around, and a large dirt path with strange tracks in the dirt that lead off into the distance in both directions. He didn't know how far it would go, but there was a massive rock in the middle, and thats probably how the cages were launched off. He cringed as he put pressure on his foreleg.

Leon was bothered by the quietness, he'd never been absolutely lost and alone. He couldn't even see the tops of Snowy Peaks. He was a long way off.  How would he get back? Maybe this road would lead back to where he was taken? But which way to go? Leon sighed. It's no use....

He licked the gash on his leg, hoping to rid of the pain. He would need to eat and drink soon. Leon wondered if Clover was looking for him, imagined her searching every bush and plant in sight... He wanted to head back right now, but if he wanted to make it, he'd have to regain strength.

Dropping his nose to the ground, he tried to pick a nearby prey scent, a squirrel. This prey might be too fast for him... one leg gone and one crippled, he remembered almost any animal could outrun him. Padding in the direction of the smell, he dropped into a crouch and expected to spot a bushy tail and little busy paws.

Licking his jaws, he bunched his muscles together. As soon as he saw a figure halt, he launched himself out of the brush the best he could. This prey was unexpectedly larger than normal prey would be... All in a split-second he tumbled through the forest until he slammed into a tree. This was no prey...

Leon hauled himself up to be face-to-face with someone familiar... He narrowed his eyes at the limp figure. Could it be..?

"Lily?"
