Merathus finished the book that week. She wanted to finish as soon as possible to share what she read with the missionaries. She even read it at school when it was reading time, everyone laughed and teased her, all her class mates were Catholic, but it never bothered her.
"Hey Merathus! How was your week?" The missionaries loved to speak to her, she always listened closely to their words which brought them relief and joy.
"Hey Elder Jimenez! Hi Elder Gawrych! It went great, guess what!?"
"What?" They both questioned playfully.
"I read the Book of Mormon and I finished it all by myself!"
Both looked taken aback but their faces were full excitement after.
"Neav, did you give her the book."
"Yeah, she read the first 11 pages to me and started reading on her own every night."
"Well maybe we can share a story and Merathus can help us out" Elder Gawrych looked towards Merathus with a gleam in his eyes.
And she did. They spoke of Nephi and his family. Merathus couldn't contain herself throughout the lesson and filled in what the missionaries left out and was the first to answer their questions.
"Hey Merathus, how about you give us the closing prayer" Jimenez questioned cheekily.
"I don't know how" Merathus answered and became flustered
"We can teach you, we'll even say it with you" The Elders reassured her.
"Okay." She sat on the couch with them and folded her arms like they did, she bowed her head and everyone followed her.
"Wait, what do I say?"
Her sister and her boyfriend giggled. Jimenez leaned closer towards Merathus and whispered to her
"Dear Heavenly Father..." And so Merathus gave the closing prayer, the first prayer she ever said
She walked towards her room but couldn't help but to wonder what the missionaries and her sister were speaking of. Shrugging off their conversation, she went to her room, but never did it come to mind that she would soon start going to church.
