"Troye!" I yell, giggling as I chase him around the massive house. Troye stumbles and as I look downward to see if he tripped on something, I slip on my untied shoelace and faceplant flat into his hardwood floors. Hard. I moan in pain.
"Oh my God. Jess!" Troye collapses on his knees next to me. "What hurts?"
"Just..." I groan. "My arm and my knee and my cheek"
"Don't move, darling. I'm calling an ambulance" Troye places his hand on my back.
"No! I-I'll go to the hospital. Can you please just drive me?"
"Jess, I would. But I don't want to move you and cause any more damage. We have to leave this to the professionals. Don't worry though, I'm going to be right there Jess" I sigh. I think I'm in enough pain to even give in.
"Do you promise you're going to be there the entire time?" I question.
"I promise I won't leave you. Now just, stay there"
By the time the ambulance arrives and the medics actually reach me, I've forced Troye to loosen up and let me put my head in his lap.
"Hey, sweetie. I'm Beth" One medic says, kneeling down next to me. "Can you tell me what happened?" Troye rests his hand on top of the back of mine.
"I-I was running with T-Troye and I-I slipped and f-fell" I let a few tears escape and Troye purses his lips, tenderly stroking my hand.
"Darling, don't cry" Troye comforts, sounding hurt himself.
"Yeah, don't cry sweetie. We're going to take you to the hospital and everything will be alright"
"O-Okay"
Carefully, the two medics flip me over and I stare up into Troye's eyes.
The medics lower the gurney and slide me across the ground until I reach it and they lift me onto it.
Troye stays by my side out the building, through the lot, and into the ambulance. He seats himself next to me and keeps his good hand in mine.
On our way to the hospital, Beth attaches a pulseomoter to a finger on my good hand and doesn't touch anything else.
As soon as we arrive at the hospital, trouble stirs.
"Jessica" A doctor starts.
"It's Jess" I sob as I see a nurse tug Troye's arm at the foot of my bed. The doctor follows my gaze.
"Jess, I'm Dr. Liverpool. Do you know who this man is?"
"He's my father! Please! Troye! Troye!" I sob. Troye sends me a look of compassion and puts his hands flat in the air before pushing them down and breathing out. I take a deep breath, following his signal to calm down.
"Sir, here are the adoption forms" Troye pulls them out from his jean jacket's pocket and shows them to Dr. Liverpool.
"Very well then, c'mon in" Troye follows and I relax completely as he is allowed access and climbs onto the bed with me, his hand on the back of mine.
I rest my head on his shoulder and close my eyes.
"Hey, don't fall asleep on me. As soon as we get home you can pass out" Troye nudges me and I groan.
"But it's like...one a.m." I whine.
"Nice try. It's only ten thirty"
"It's still late"
I open my eyes when a new doctor walks in. He introduces himself as Jonathan.
"What'd you do, Jess?" He asks and I press further into Troye, making sure I'm safe and he's still here.
"I was running with Troye and I fell" I hang my head.
"Did you hurt anything?"
"My arm and I have a headache" Troye gives me a curious look. He lowers his mouth to my ear.
"What about your knee?" I shake my head. "It doesn't hurt anymore?" I shake my head again.
"Okay, we can give you some painkillers for your head if that's okay with your father" I look up to him.
"Yeah, it's okay" He smiles at me.
Jonathan, an orthopedic doctor, walks over to the edge of my bed, snapping on a pair of latex gloves and preparing to examine my arm. The x-rays are back, but he won't say anything.
I quickly turn my head into Troye's shoulder, worrying a select section of fabric from his shirt between my teeth as I clench my eyes shut in anticipation.
"Ow!" I cry out as Jonathan touches a certain area on my wrist.
"Yep. That's broken" Jonathan sighs as he walks back to the table. My head shoots up and looks directly at Troye as tears fill my eyes.
"Awww, Jess" Troye places his hand to my back as I sob into his chest.
"Jess, all I have to do is cast it and then you'll be good" Jonathan says.
"Troye?"
"Yes, love?"
"Can I still come tomorrow?"
"I would never leave you behind"
