Arthur sighed as he picked up his tea and took a sip. It was another day as a neuroscientist at the Royal Hospital of London. He hopped off the tube and crossed the street, heading into the hospital for another exciting day at work. Arthur adored his job. Everything about brains and how they worked fascinated him. Life fascinated him.
"Good morning Francis!" Arthur said cheerfully as he passed the French receptionist in the lobby of the neurology department.
"Bon matin mon ami!" Francis said with a smile. The two had been friends ever since they both became interns and basically had the same routine every Monday. Arthur would bring him a cappuccino and a croissant because he passed Starbucks on his way to work on Mondays, and Francis would return the favor by bringing Arthur the daily newspaper and a packet of gum. The system worked out pretty well.
"What's my schedule today?" Arthur asked, curious as to what work had to be done. He had recently finished up a project on child prodigies, where he met with the children themselves, interviewed them, and then took scans of their brains in order to see the similarities and differences between them. The project had taken him six months and now he was left with no real project to work on. He was desperate for a new task.
"Pretty much just working in the lab today." Francis responded, seeing the obvious look of disappointment on Arthur's face. Francis knew that when Arthur wasn't working on a project, he got real irritable real quick.
"Eh, maybe Lovino will let me help him with his project." Arthur suggested, lightening up a bit.
"I doubt it. But we'll find you a new one! You'll be back to busy in no time." Francis said optimistically.
"Thanks Francis. I'll see you later, I'm going to get to work. " Arthur said with a wave. As Arthur walked down the hallway from the lobby to the lab, he opened the newspaper and started reading. He giggled as he saw a picture of a baby pig wearing rain boots. He didn't pay attention as he heard a the door swing open at the end of the hall and the sound of footsteps coming towards him. He yelped and fell backwards as he suddenly ran into someone. He looked up to see a tan, sapphire-eyed blond boy wearing a letterman jacket and jeans.
"I'm so sorry dude! I should've watched where I was going. Need a hand?" the boy asked, reaching his hand out for the englishman to grab. Arthur just sat there for a moment, trying to find words to say, but nothing was coming out.
"I-erm- uh." he stuttered.
"Is that a yes?" the boy chuckled, his hand still reaching out for Arthur to grab. Arthur suddenly pulled himself together and said,
"Oh-um sorry yes that would be lovely thank you". The American helped him up and Arthur couldn't help but blush at the touch of his fingers. He had never seen a boy so attractive before.
"No problem bro! I knocked you down in the first place. My name's Alfred." The boy apologized with a smile.
"I'm Doctor Kirkland, or Arthur." Arthur said, rubbing the back of his head with embarrassment.
"Well, nice to meet you, Doctor. Cya around." Alfred said flirtatiously, putting an English accent on the word doctor. As the American walked past him, Arthur couldn't help but blush. He hated himself for being so awkward. He didn't have crushes often, but when he did he always messed it up by being a dork. He wondered what the guy was doing in the lab in the first place. As he walked into the lab, he decided to ask Lovino.
"Hey who was that American guy and why was he in the lab?"
"Antonio and I's new project. Top secret. I'm not telling." the Italian said stoically.
"You're working with Antonio? Isn't he a therapist? Does this project have to do with emotional brain trauma or something?" Arthur questioned.
"Like I said. Top secret. Stop asking." Lovino said seriously.
"Fine." Arthur finally said, pouting. He knew he could always just peek at Lovino or Antonio's files whenever he pleased. As he turned to walk away he smirked mischievously. He knew what he was doing after work.
Well, there's the first chapter! I must've written it at least 3 times before finally getting it right. I deleted it the first three times and it was SOooOoOoO frustrating but I finally got it and I'm happy! Anyway, hope you enjoyed. Thank you for reading! ❤️
