Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Ashley Martinez. I live with my father, and life is actually really well the way it has been. Except for one thing that tears my dad and I to shreds. My mother passed away with cancer when I was just six years old. Now, I'm 17 and it still makes me want to cry every time I hear the name of Beatrice Martinez. When I was eight years old, another terrible thing happened; my best friend, Chresanto August moved far away from where I live now. He always used to make me laugh when I cried, happy when I was sad. But I can remember it like it was yesterday. All the tears that were brought to our eyes. To this day, even though we haven't seen, or even talked to each other, I miss him... a lot. I don't even know what he looks like now. I sighed thinking of my past, but... what can a girl do? Just dream... I guess that's all I can do.

It was like any other ordinary Summer day. My dad and I were sitting quietly on our living room couch watching our favorite show, which is Jerry Springer. It was nearly 10 o'clock PM, so, as usual, I gave my dad a quick hug and walked upstairs to my bedroom. I wasn't very sleepy, so I sat up and watched a little more television. I felt as if there was a presence near me. I also heard bushes from outside rustling. So I slowly walked over to my bedroom window, and looked outside the curtains... Just as I thought... Nothing. So I laid back down on my bed, remembering that I'm supposed to meet up with Jessica, my best friend tomorrow. I quickly fell asleep within ten minutes.
