Chapter 2 - Special

My heart raced, one foot forward two, one, two, one, two.....I was going fast, my schools track was amazing, I loved running, it is what I turned to after the accident, I also moved schools. No one here knows my past. There is a stables here. Red Oak. It's an incredible stables and very competitive...it would've been perfect before the accident...ever since that day haven't been on a horse. It's too hard to picture loving another horse after Delight...I remember how after every jump off she would give a huge buck. I remember how she used to love peanuts and how she adored caramel popcorn...and how when I was eleven and we'd just won a show for the first time...and mom bought me an ice cream to celebrate and Delight and taken a bite out of it while I wasn't looking...I slowed down to a walk. Maybe if I go swimming now. I run to my locker and grab my cozzie, it's now 6:30. I have fifteen minutes to swim in. I sprint down to the indoor pool and change in the girls bathroom. Now I check the clock in here. 6:35. Ten minutes. I run and dive into the pool. Swimming ten laps of freestyle before jumping out of the pool.

"Hi." Said a husky voice from behind me. I turned slowly.

"You should try out for the team!" Oh my gosh! It was Chase! Chase Tuppet. The most popular guy in my year and definitely the cutest. He had light blonde hair, almost white and the greenest eyes ever. He had long eyelashes and freckles! I can't believe he would talk to me. I'm part of the smart group, I get straight A's and I'm definitely not the prettiest girl. I have brown hair that goes lighter until it's nearly blonde and grey eyes that sometimes turn blue depending how on my mood.

"Rea...really? I just do it for fun...what about you? Why do you do every sport and become the captain! Isn't it stressful?"
He laughs, his eyes going blue around the edges.

"Yah...I guess but sport is my escape from the world. I may not do it here but I love horse riding..it's my fun sport! I used to try and model myself after this girl..." He laughs, "she was plain amazing! She rode a skewbald and used to jump derbies. They were an amazing team. She was like ten years old and jumping meter twenties...but...yah anyway." He smiles "I'll see you Camber"

"Bye!" I had tears in my eyes...as he walked away. Delight...Delight, Delight, Delight...

I'd won an award for everything...

"Sadly at the end of each term we have to say goodbye to some of our students." Says the headmistress, "This term we are losing three students, Matthew Rubb in grade one, Hannah Beauford in grade five and lastly we are losing our grade seven Camber Dare. I'd like you all to come up and receive a Bear from our school." I walked up and hugged my headmistress. She smiled and handed me the cute teddy. The other two walked in front of me.

"Camber I'd like you to remain here." I turned around surprised, "Camber, has shown outstanding effort and it has paid off well. She has gotten 80's for all of her exams and has received an amazing report. Camber, for your effort throughout the first term, I would like you to accept this, she held out a huge trophy that everyone had been eyeing the whole final assembly. Camber, this trophy is given to only the most outstanding students. It is the Soul Cup. Camber this trophy is meant for you." She said...I almost screamed. Almost. As I took the trophy from her extended left hand, I shook her right. She smiled down at me and I looked up. I was going to miss this place. Though, I might come back. I don't know how I am going to survive Canterwood without Delight and riding, it's what the school is famous for. And as I sit down, everyone rises to sing the blessing and I sing with them.

Praise my soul the King of Heaven...

We walk out of the hall, I struggle to hold all of my cups, some slipping. And as I'm about to drop one, Chase reaches for it and grabs it, taking half my load and adding it to his.

"Thanks Chase." I say with watery eyes.

"It's my pleasure, Cam." He smiles

I smile back. A single tear running down my face. He wiped it, smiling.

"Thanks." I said, man he is cute!

"Bye, Cam."
He walks away, heading to his girlfriend Olivia and kissing her. She looked at me over his shoulder and smirked. I looked away feeling stupid.

After this I head to my class, grab my report card and fetch my bag, slinging it over my shoulder I walk towards my beasties, Haley and Hazel. I hug them and now I really start crying.

"I'm gonna miss you guys!" I say through giant sobs, "but we can still Skype, Whatsapp and IM each other. It'll seem as if I'm still here!"

"Yah, Cam, you have to let us help you pick colours and everything! Cause you suck at design. Your mom and sister rock! I mean totes look at your bathroom!" Haze said laughing and crying, I mean who does that.

"We're gonna totally DIE, without you Cami! Like who is gonna win all those awards now!?" Hales said teasing me. They'd also won a lot of awards, Haze won ten awards and Hales won at least nine. We walked arm in arm to the gate and I hugged them one last time before climbing into my moms Volvo and waving to them trough the back window.

"Hi mommy." I say, wiping my tears away, "I'm gonna miss them!"

"I know honey, I know. But you can still see them this holiday and when you come back for half term and stuff...we can also sneak them into Canterwood for you." Mom says reassuring me.

"I love you mom." I say.

"I love you too Hun." She replies and I smile, wondering what life has in store for me.
