Chapter 16 - Our life's Lesson

We arrived at the stables at quarter to. Clarke had a bit to get ready so I quickly went and said hi to Chance. He sniffed my pockets looking for more chips.

"Chance!" I scolded him, "if you keep on at this rate we'll have to get you started in a saddle to get rid of the fat!" He snorted indignantly, throwing his head. I giggled and scratched his forehead. He lowered his head and his bottom lip went out.

"You silly banana..." I said moving up to his ears. I quickly ducked into his stable as I heard footsteps.

"Look! You see I told you. It is an Arab cross, and it's never being ridden, I want it." A snotty voice said. Sabrina...

"Sabby, it's gorgeous. I wonder who's it is." Said another posh voice. I smirked. And stood up.

"Well I guess you know now!" I said sickly sweet. Chance nuzzled me. And I my teeth hurt from smiling at them so hard.

Sabrina's eyes widened then a glare came onto her face, "isn't it ugly huh Abby?" The venom in her voice made me take a step back. Geez Louise this girl was nasty.

"But you just said you wanted it Sabby. And it is quite pretty." Said the other Abby girl. Typical 'dumb blonde' style. I rolled my eyes as Sabrina grabbed her friend and marched away.

I played with Chance's ears then left to go see what Clarke was doing.

I sat on the grandstand as Clarke and Indi jumped the eighty centimeter oxer. It wasn't huge but it was nowhere near small. I held my breath as they came around the turn. No need, they reached the exact place and took off, clearing it easily and turning to the next jump. They were a great team!

I clapped as they cleared the final jump. It was now Sabrina's turn, I didn't want to admit it but she WAS good, really good. She and her horse...Belladonna...Bellarosa...Ballerina...Bella....Bellatrix? I think that might be it...oh well I'll call it that for now. So anyway Bellatrix and Sabrina came around the turn, they had the perfect stride they took off, clearing it, not as perfectly as Clarke because Sabrina kicked Bellatrix as they went over, causing her to hollow and land funny. Their next jump wasn't nearly as good, Sabrina was now angry and chased the poor horse into the next jump, Bellatrix lost the stride and knocked the back pole. It flew up into the air as they landed and came crashing down on the ground.

Everyone was deadly silent. Suddenly Mr. Conner spoke up, "Sabrina, do not. Ever. Get angry with your horse because of something you did. It is inexcusable, your first jump was looking brilliant until YOU hollowed Bella. Your second was not anything I expect to see from someone in this class. You do not chase your horse into something unless it is for a reason."

Everyone stared open mouthed at Sabrina as she glared at Mr. Conner.

I knew I shouldn't but hey...you don't look at a teacher like that..."hey, Sabrina, he actually has a point. Mr. Conner is an experienced rider and you shouldn't blame your horse for something you did." I point out. Mr. Conner looks up, he does not look happy with me, but there's something else too. He looks impressed!

"Well then Camber since it's so damn easy, why don't you come down here and do it?" She smirked, "I'm sure Mr. Conner would let you have a quick try?" She put on her teachers voice and put on puppy dog eyes. Mr. Conner was not fooled he frowned shaking his head then looked at me. I smiled and shook my head too. He understood, I didn't want to but I would if he said. He nodded then turned to Sabrina.

"Sabrina, get off your horse and go and untack. Your lesson is finished." Mr. Conner said firmly.

Now everyone's mouths were wide open and they stared and me, Clarke was the only one who was smirking at me and I shared a knowing smile with her.

"Next!" Mr. Conner said, "don't lose focus!" He said sternly.

I walked down the stands to the arena. "Sorry Mr. Conner, I didn't mean to interrupt your lesson." I apologized.

He smiled, it's okay Camber, how's Chance doing?"

"Great, I got a halter on and put him in the stall easily. I'll go now..." I say as the next rider started the first jump.

I walked out the arena into the stables, gave Chance a cuddle, kissing his muzzle and then decided that I felt like a walk. I attached the lead rein onto Chances halter and led him out. He looked like he belonged here, his ears pricked, his new dapples displayed. My grooming every evening was showing. He rubbed his head on my chest as I looked at him as if to say, "are you done checking me out?" I giggled and scratched his forehead.

I heard giggling ahead and saw Tanner cuddling with someone, obviously his lesson was finished. "Well...I guess he's everyone's Prince Charming...and everyone's Nutella...huh dude?" I whispered to Chance he snorted and we walked past Tanners stable where he was and straight onto the trail where we could get peace...

Away from Sabrina...

Away from Tanner...

Away from homework...

We walked until my legs felt as though they might fall off...I suddenly realized we were at the stables again! How long did we take, it was already dusk and I had stupid homework...Clarke probably thought I had ditched her and...agh this is why I went on that walk. I scratched Chance's ears as I let him into his stable, un-did his halter and hung it up outside and latched his door closed. I sighed. Homework here I come...and if there's time I might get some food. Otherwise, it's a snack for me...

And the one lesson I've learnt today?

Okay scrap that...shoot me, I deserve it..I haven't updated in like...a month...but on a higher note... YOU PEOPLE GOT ME 1k reads!
