After a long day of climbing, and changing courses; the Pevensies, and Trumpkin settled down for a good night's rest. In the morning, after the fire had burned out, Lucy was the first to rise. The first thing on her mind was Aslan. After seeing him the day before, and no one believing her, she was determined to find him. She got up slowly, observing all of her siblings lying on the grass underfoot. She looked in front of her and felt compelled to walk that direction. With one final glance at her brothers and sister, she was on her way. She wandered up the grassy hill, lifting her skirt so she could run. She sprinted up the winding path. Ducking under branches, stepping over big rocks. Lucy thought it was beautiful up there. All of the green, and the colors of blooming flowers. It made her happy.
As soon as she reached the top of the hill, she glanced around. A group of pinkish flowers swirled around. They flew gracefully in front of her, turning into a figure of a woman. Then it blew away again. The petals whirled around the trees, as if leading the youngest Pevensies. As the petals moved the trees did as well. Dancing. Seeing the trees dance as they once did made her smile. The trees were alive. She walked through the path that the trees had cleared for her.
"Lucy." Said a whisper. It echoed around her as something would in a cave. She followed the voice.
"Lucy." It repeated again. She reached a hill. Lifting her skirt, her legs pumped as fast as they could. Taking every twist that came her way.
"Aslan!" She breathed with a smile, running toward the lion standing on a rock. His maine glowed in the sunlight. He tilted his head down and nuzzled into Lucy, as the young queen hugged him. He laughed slightly, as she pet his head.
"I've missed you so much." She said, not sure whether or not he was really there. Backing away, Lucy took in his breathtaking features of the Majestic lion.
"You've grown." Lucy said with a smile, and he returned it.
"Every year you grow..." He spoke.
"...so shall I."
"Where have you been? Why haven't you come to help us?" She said in confusion.
"Things never happen the same way twice, dear one." He said in a nurturing voice.
*Snap*
Lucy jerked awake. Disappointment washed over her. Sitting up, looking around for the sound.
"Susan! Wake up!"
"Hm." Susan said in shock, as one would after being woken up.
"Certainly, Lu. Whatever you like." She said rolling over. A second snap was heard behind her. This time closer and more distinct. Standing up, walking down a familiar path she wonders what it was. Was it Aslan? Like the dream? The only difference, was nothing was as alive as it was in the dream. The trees were still. No petals flying about to lead her. Lucy placed her hand on the white bark of the tree.
"Wake up." She says sadly, to the trees. She had wanted Aslan to be back so bad.
As she wandered, she thought about the dream. Did Aslan send that as a sign, he was coming back? Was her dream all just nonsense, just relaying her deepest hopes? A deep grumble is heard.
"Aslan!" She says hopefully, interrupted by a hand over her mouth, pulling her into the bushes. She looked behind her, at who it was, concerned for her safety. A very serious Peter, stared at her, showing her what it was. They crept around the bush, tense. A Minotaur. They hadn't seen one in ages. They were dangerous, that's all Peter knew. The Minotaur had a bow around his back, fully armored. As he walked he swung his mighty axe. Lucy let out a gasp, looking toward her brother. One finger to his mouth was all it took for Lucy to get the message. He crept forward one hand on the sword, unsheathing it. When suddenly, another sword swung at Peter. The man came leaping down, striking the young king. One hit after another, Peter hitting the man in the face, with the hilt of his sword. Peter swung downward, but the man blocked the attack. With one final swing, he knocked the sword out of the man's hand. Peter swung towards the neck of the attacker, then the head. Peter's sword goes past the attackers head, into the tree behind him. It all happened so fast. The man kicked the high king, sending him to the ground, then tried to unwedge Peter's sword from the thick oak. Peter grabbed a rock before he could.
