(Y/N)'s POV

It's been about a week since I've had my encounter with X-Ray and Vav. Since then, I've been wondering when I would next see him. I sigh as I put my calculus textbook down. I might as well go for a walk. I quickly throw on a pair of combat boots, my UNSC hoodie, and a black beanie before I grab my keys, phone, earphones, and wallet. I make my way out of my dorm and off of the school campus. I plug my earphones into my phone and put all of my music on shuffle.

I start walking around aimlessly for about ten minutes before I find myself by a park. I walk towards the playground and notice a swing set. I take a seat on a swing and rock myself back and forth. The song "Cinderblock Garden" by All Time Low starts playing. I smile, take out one earbud, and start singing along.

Wait,
I think we're onto something,
We can't run from fate,
But we can let it take us down,
Down this road,
Where all our colors run together,

Let's take the worst and make it better,
Let's take this mess and make a home

I know it gets hard for you to stay,
But do you really want to throw it all away?
I'm thinkin'

That we could make forever after all,
Finding the gold in our darkest moments,
Watching the roads turning into white roses
And we don't ever have to leave these walls,
I'll be the boy with the silver lining,
You'll be the girl with the cinderblock garden

"You know, you have a great voice," someone says from behind me. I turn around to see the same dork I met a week ago.

"Thanks," I blush. "X-Ray, isn't it?"

"Yeah," he smiles taking a seat on the swing set next to me. "Your name is (Y/N), right?"

"Yup," I answer.

"Sorry, I've been meaning to contact you, but with everything that's been going on, I sorta got busy," he explains.

"It's fine," I tell him. "I mean, being a superhero is a lot of hard work."

"Yeah," he says quietly. We sit in silence for a few minutes. "Hey, I have an idea." I turn to look at him and cock my head. "How about we go on a date?"

"Okay," I answer. "When?"

"Right now," he says.

"Now?" I ask him. "I mean, I pretty much look like shit right now. I'm wearing a beanie, my UNSC hoodie, and a pair of leggings."

"You look cute," he says. "Plus, it'll be more of a casual date." He stands up and turns towards me, holding his hand out. "What do you say?"

"Alright," I say taking his hand. "Lead the way." He smiles and starts leading the way. After about ten minutes of walking, he stops by a rundown building. "Now you didn't take me here to murder me, did you?"

He chuckles and shakes his head. "Of course not," he answers. "Don't you trust me?"

"I don't have a choice, now do I?" I playfully retort.

"Well, there's always the option to bail on the date you agreed to go on," he says a bit worried.

I hold his hand tighter and look at him. "Lead the way." He smiles as leads me into the building. He guides me up a few flights of stairs until we get to a door.

"Wait, let me grab something really quick," he says. He releases my hand and runs off somewhere. Within a few minutes, he comes back with a picnic basket and a blanket.

"Looks like you were prepared for this," I joke.

"Well, you gotta when you're a superhero," he says. I let out a giggle as he takes my hand and leads me up one last flight of stairs. When we reach the top, he opens a door to reveal access to the roof. I step out to see a few small lanterns set up. I walk out farther to see that you could see the whole city from up here.

"Wow," I say.

"I know," he replies as he walks up to me.

"It's amazing up here," I tell him. "How'd you find this place?"

"This is the place I go to whenever I need somewhere to be alone," he admits.

"Really?" I ask. He nods. "Well that must mean this is a really special place to be, and I am honored that you decided to bring me up here." He smiles and walks away to set up the blanket. He motions me to sit down, which I do. He takes a seat next to me and puts the picnic basket between us.

"Are you hungry?" he asks. Before I could say anything, my stomach grumbles. "I'll take that as a yes." He lets out a chuckle before opening the basket. "So, I really didn't have much food around here. I have chocolate covered strawberries though."

"Yum, my favorite," I smile. He laughs as he takes one out. He brings it to my lips, and I take a bite out of it. I decide to return the favor and feed him one. After a few minutes, we finished all of the strawberries.

"That was good," X-Ray says as he lies down.

"It really was," I say as I lean back. I lie down next to him, trying to get into a comfortable position.

"Ya know, you could come closer and use my chest as a pillow, if you wanted to," he slyly says. I take him up on his offer and scoot closer to him. My head rests on his chest as his arm makes its way around my waist. I smile and cuddle even closer to him.

"You know, you're not as cocky as everyone makes you out to be," I comment remembering what my roommate told me one day.

"Yeah, well, there's something about you that makes me appear not as confident," he confesses.

"Well, I still think you're pretty confident," I tell him. "I mean, you did ask me out on a date."

"I think there's something else I could do," he says. I look towards him questionly. He leans in and gives me a quick kiss. He pulls away with a worried expression. "Sorry, I guess I really shouldn't have done that and-" I cut him off with another kiss.

"It's fine," I tell him. "I'm not gonna lie, I sorta wanted that to happen." He smiles as we both look up at the stars.

"You know, I think I really like you (Y/N)," he mutters. I smile and cuddle up to him close.

"I think I really like you too, X-Ray."
