As the children grew to age 14 and 15 they all were being taught by Timothy's mother, Emma. After class the children would go outside to play. They all got along well. Timothy was going to be a big brother soon. With Emma pregnant again one month to due he was pushed aside a lot even after they promised him that he would not be. Once the baby came he often spent his time at the Morrels'. It was like his second home. He loved it there. One day Katherine asked him why he was always there.
"Timothy, we never play at your house and I want to see the baby. What is it like to be older sibling? Babies are so cute don't you think?" Katherine continued with the questions always being the more curious one out of the two.
"Katherine, you are bothering him. Can you not see that it is exhausting, always having to share the attention. Right, Timothy?"
"Neither of you really know do you? It is always screaming and I never get a break. They are always like 'Come here and hold her Timothy. I need help with the baby Timothy. Make sure you are a good role model Timothy.' there is no end to this. I just want to be a single child again. An only child again. Is that too much to ask?" He says huffing."Oh do not be so dramatic, it can not be that bad." Katherine says.
"Stop it just let him be." Mary interrupts
"Whatever I am going for a walk." He says getting up ready to leave. "Mary you can come if you want."
"What about me?" Katherine says feeling left out.
"You can go see the wailing baby." He says spitting out the word baby like it left a sour taste in his mouth. Katherine did not want to go see the baby though, she wanted to go with them. She felt lonely and jealousy creeping up on her.
She never was really jealous of her sister. They shared everything. Even friends, even Timothy. She knew her sister had a crush on him but she did too. It was like she did not even know how to talk to him anymore. As though everything he did was perfect and everything she did and said was dirt and only made him angry. He grew into a tall thin but muscular young man with shaggy wavy blonde hair. His eyes were a light brown that you can look into and see his soul and how his heart is golden. While she was plain with brown natural curls in her hair and blue eyes. She had flawless skin with not a blemish in sight, as her sister had, with freckles.
Katherine stayed at home to pity herself. It started to gently rain. She watched as Timothy walked her sister home holding his jacket he had on earlier over the two as they run and laugh together. "Timothy is such a gentleman" Katherine thought to herself. "Look how they laugh as though nothing is the matter, as they did nothing wrong. As they did not hurt my feelings." She thought again tearing up looking out the window. She wiped her tears away and got ready for bed. It was only eight but she thought that she would read a book and maybe that would make her smart enough for Timothy and her being worthy to at least be friends again.Mary comes up to the room their shared even though they had another bedroom they always insisted on sleeping in the same room because it was like having sleepovers with your best friend and who does not like that? Well right now, Katherine is regretting that decision. Mary dances around the room her hair wet even with Timothy's jacket being over her head. Her face red. Katherine thought because of the harsh wind that came with the rain but that changed after Mary told her what she feared.
"So, where did you two love birds go?" Katherine said expecting her sister to deny her liking for the boy.
"We went to his playhouse and talked up there for a while." Mary said with a smile that irritated Katherine even more.
"Oh, so he kissed you up there?" Katherine replied with an attitude.
"Yes." Mary said twirling still. Katherine storms out of the room "Wait what?" Mary stopped dancing and followed her. "How.." Mary started before she got cut off by Valentine.
"What is going on up here girls? "Katherine I did not see you with your sister and Timothy is something wrong? You guys always hang out together." Valentine asks completely unaware of what is going on.
"Well, Mary and Timothy thought it was a good idea to leave me out of their date plans." Katherine said slamming the bathroom door.
"You like Timothy, okay so what is the problem?" Valentine asks turning to Mary.
"I did not believe anything. I was unaware that I even had feeling for him until he told me about his feelings for me." Mary answered truthfully and innocently. Are you both blind to my feelings? Did you ever consider that maybe I like him?"
Katherine said between tears and breaths.
"I will be back in two hours and I want this to be resolved when I get back." Valentine said grabbing her purse and heading out the door to go to see the baby.
