December 5th is a day that I will never forget I was now 16 years old and in 14 days my dad was supposed to come home I was beyond excited I could not wait I was in the kitchen pouring my mom another cup of black coffee on a Sunday morning while my brother was reading the comics in the Sunday paper at the kitchen table. I heard a knock on the door.
"Sav can you please get that?"asked my mom impatiently
I opened the door to see an officer with a uniform almost the same as my dad's except his had more pins on it he had an envelope in his hands and he looked nervous .
"Is Mrs Pearson here?" he asked giving me a odd smile
"Yes one second"I said confused
I called my mom over and told her someone was at the door for her I proceeded over to the couch son that I could see what was going on ,the man in the black uniform handed the letter to my mom and started talking to her he talked for almost 15 minutes and in the last five minutes my mom's face changed the officer put his hand on my mom's shoulder as a way to comfort her and then left my mom didn't say anything she hurried into her room and locked the door she looked like she could not breathe in those few seconds I saw her her face was pale.
I paced around the room with a huge knot in my stomach I knew what had happened but did not want to believe it I would not believe it I paced for a good hour until my mom finally came out of her room.
"Savannah,Nathan come sit down with mommy for a second"she said looking more dead than ever
We sat down it was quiet for about ten minutes..just pure silence she looked as if she was thinking really hard she would say something but then choke up and become silent again.
"Your father was in an accident last night and he did not make it"
