CHAPTER ONE
The weather had been particularly bad that night, I remember it vividly, the strong winds blew up against my bedroom window as I lay there trying to cancel them out and fall asleep. It wasn't as if I really wanted to sleep, in fact I was more of a night owl then a dreamer, but I had a big test tomorrow and I had to make an effort on it. This test would contribute to a rather large chunk of my science mark, and who wants to see their parents faces make that ever burning look of disappointment when few seconds ago they had been hopefully scanning your report card.
Of course that's not my biggest concern any more, because I had fallen asleep and I dreamed of all the regular things a fifteen year old girl would, but there was this one odd thing that appeared in my dream from time to time, large steel doors. It looked as if they had been forged in the Middle Ages, they each had large brass door knockers and it looked like they were embroidered by other types of metals. I decided I would enter one of them, but the second I took a step near them I woke up.
I looked around and realized I had awoken in a graveyard, I must not have been asleep long, it only felt like a little less then two hours, but it sure as hell must have been a deep sleep. "What the hell?" I mumbled. I walked around trying to figure out which way my house was. At this point I had given up on my dreams of my parents actually being proud of my marks because all I wanted to do was go home. That was when I heard a faint rustling sound coming from some were in the distance, I remembered an assembly we had in school at the start of the year about how the graveyard didn't have security cameras, I don't remember why they told us this exactly but I was pretty sure it was so that we wouldn't wonder in there at night and get robed or something, to late I guess.
"Uh, er, hello?" I asked. No response, no surprise. I started my walk back to my house that I figured out it would probably only be a few blocks east, at the same time praying that that sound was nothing dangerous.
"Umm, ma'am?" I heard a small voice say. I looked down, it was a small boy with a little top hat on and gentleman's clothes, at this point I figured I died or something but I went along with it anyway.
"Hi, what's your name?" I asked.
"Onyx, ma'am," He replied. "May I ask what your name is?"
His name struck me as very strange, but I keep along like before and answered his question politely. "Mabel, but feel free to call me Mae."
"Alright Mae," he began in such a strong tone it was frightening. "May I ask you yet another question?"
I hesitated. "Yeah, sure."
"Have you ever wanted to end your own life?"
As shocked as I was to hear a little boy ask me this, I answered as true as I could. "Well that's a weird question, of course I've never tried to kill myself."
A wide grin almost from ear to ear appeared on this little boys face. The next thing I know I have a large knife in my abdomen.
"Forgive me, miss Mae" he said.
"Holy Shit," I screamed. "WHAT IN THE HELL DID YOU DO THAT FOR?!?!"
The weirdest thing happened after that, his smile faded and he vanished.
I looked down at the warm puddle of blood pouring out from the right side of my abdomen. I felt my legs growing weak fast, I collapsed. As I lie there in a puddle of my own blood on a windy fall night two things became certain to me. The first one was that that rustling sound I heard earlier in no way could have been that Onyx boy, it had been too far away. And two was that I was going to die tonight.
All of a sudden I began to feel warm, kind of like I was being cradled. I closed my eyes. I seen a white light, but it wasn't just a white light, it was beautiful, the most gorges thing I have ever seen in my life. The second I seen that light I knew I wanted it, no, I knew I needed it. I began walking towards the light, I wanted to run for it but as hard as I tried I couldn't, my legs wouldn't let me. I looked down at my self and noticed that I stopped. No, I was being dragged back from the light. "N-no!" I said. That's when my eyes were forced open.
Chapter one ending notes: I know that it wasn't that long and I promise chapter two will be longer but I thought that this would be a perfect way to end a pilot of some sorts. Anyway stick around to find out what or who was making that rustling sound and what Mae finds when she opens her eyes.
