Asylum
They told us we needed therapy
I found my asylum in you
Safety
In your darkness
Behind my every word
Your bewitching grin
You took asylum in me
Ripping me apart
A hatchet to my soul
A spade to my garden ground
Refuge
Shelter
Sanctuary
They wanted to lock us up
They wanted to forget about us
We wanted to forget them, as well
One solution
You told me
One answer
You were in my mind – whispering, kissing
Gnawing, clawing, biting
You were in my heart – filling, guiding
Taking all for yourself
One answer
To their therapy
I closed my eyes to not see
The beauty of your body in the sun
The bitter truth of your words
They told us we needed therapy
But more than that
They told us we should stay
Apart
Father said it
Then Mother, too
Anger rising
Fingers pointing
Asylum
Hide in me, my body open to yours
This offer on our lips
Never part, never again
I planted flowers in my garden
Five all together to grow in the sun
Different each, and each with a different name
Father
Mother
Sister
Brother
And the loveliest flower of all
Baby
Beneath the garden ground
My asylum is in you
