Chapter 19: Hans

The only daughter of Mr. Haruki & Mrs. Sonia Nakamoto.

Hans is the youngest of three siblings.

Before Mr. Nakamoto married Sonia, she already have two daughters from a previous marriage: Ma. Aurora "Marie" and Geraldine "Anden" Coralde

Hans had an elder brother, Alvin. Her biological brother.

Alvin died when he was a year old. He had very high fever then convulsed.

He didn't make it. He was pronounced "DOA (Dead on Arrival)" when they rushed him to the hospital.

Mr. Nakamoto was on his way to go out of the country, almost boarded the plane, when they informed him about his son. He rushed back home but his son is already dead.

Hans is not planned.

She wouldn't exist if Alvin survived.

Hans was the apple of the eye of his father. A very bright kid since she was a toddler. But a sickly one. A very ill kid. That's the reason why she's not allowed to go out and play with the other kids. Her yaya invites their neighbors' kids in the house to play with Hans but most of the time, Hans play by herself. Alone. She doesn't mind. She likes it more when she's alone.

Every time her father is out of the country for months and years, never ceased sending her packages. Mostly clothes whatever country her father may be. It's obvious from the clothes he sends what country he's currently in. For example, he sends a box full of clothes, (half of it is boys clothes, and half for girls) pairs of shirt and shorts in all different available colors embroided on it, Phuket, Thailand or pairs of shirt and shorts in all different available colors with coconut trees in a beach prints, he's in Hawaii. She hates wearing dresses. Some packages also include coloring and activity books (always in twos), coloring materials, boxes of pencils, VHS tapes (Garfield, Batman and Disney movies), illustration and story books. That's when the library was added in the house. When Hans started schooling, boxes of Parker pens are included and yellow pads in all sizes (what will she do with the yellow pads?)

Because Mr. Nakamoto is not present, Yaya Pearly is there to take care of her.

Hans is very bright that before she even started school, she already knows how to read and write. She wrote letters for his dad in english almost everyday without any help from yaya Pearly.

When Hans started schooling, before school even starts, she already finished answering every activity books and knows every story in every book for school. She loves to read.

When she's in kindergarten, she hates to write down notes from the board (she can't see the writings on the board clearly from the back of the class actually, She has Astigmatism) that's the only reason she's not the top of her class. Ooppsss... Another thing was just because she already finished answering all activity books before school starts, the teacher assumes that she got help from home answering every page of the books from start to finish. But that's not the case. Well... Adults... They always assume!

When she's in grade school, because she really loves to read, her hobby was reading encyclopedias. She has three different sets of it. She also reads dictionaries. After school, she goes straight to the library to do her homeworks. Too focused on homeworks, yaya Pearly brings her snacks instead and calls her if it's time for dinner. After doing all her homeworks, she starts to read books. Any kind of book. Even after dinner, she runs back in the library to read until it's time for bed. That's the routine everyday. Watching television is not her thing. She prefers books instead. When she was in second grade, she too almost die. She ate something that she's allergic to, rushed to the hospital, had a 50-50 chance of survival and lived. Always getting picked to represent the class on any contests from essay writing to spelling bees and even poster making. Her passion on writing stories began when she was in her fifth grade when her adviser picked, loved and used her story that he asked the class to make for a seatwork as a sample story to all other sections. That's when she started writing stories. Her friends love her stories especially when they are in it. They can't wait to read the next entry, pressuring Hans. Always at the top of her class until she finished grade school (haven't been able to attend the Graduation though because she had Chicken Pox). Had her first girlfriend when she was in sixth grade.

High school. Writing stories continued but she started to love sports. Plays Basketball, Karate and Taekwondo for starters. Girls started throwing themselves at her. Every Intramurals, whatever sport she's in, they're the champion until she graduated. She's also a dancer. Her group competes every fridays and saturdays, sometimes even sunday nights not for the cash prize but just for fun.
Had lots of girlfriends she meets at dance competitions. She met her current girlfriend at that time, also a dancer, at a dance competition. They didn't last long. They broke up after a month (Hans' freshmen year), had lots of girlfriends then after that but got back together when she was in her Junior year. Around August, she had Typhoid fever. Every afternoon, she's having high fevers. At first, she didn't tell her dad about it. One night, she went to his father's room, lie next to him and she's shaking. Her father took her temperature (he doesn't know how to use a mercury thermometer so he let Hans do it). 41.8°. He rushed her to the hospital. At the hospital, the doctor took her BP then asked a nurse to take her temperature. But the thermometer is not in place so they got a normal temperature and sends Hans home. The day after, Hans told her father about the high fevers every afternoon so her father let her stay home. Early that night, she felt she's got to pee but she's already unable to stand up so she asked her dad to help her go to the bathroom. Right after she enters the bathroom, all went black. She collapsed. When she woke up, she's already at the hospital bed. Beside her was her girlfriend holding her hand while the nurses scrambling around her. One nurse is inserting the IV on her right hand. They put her on a wheelchair so they can bring her up to her room. On the way up to her room, she blacked out again. When she woke up, she's already lying in bed, girlfriend on her side and father on the couch watching tv. Every now and then, a nurse enters the room to take blood from her or inject something in the IV. One time, a nurse injects the meds in the IV hurriedly then exits the room that made Hans suffers from an excruciating pain (the nurse was fired immediately. Mr. Nakamoto made sure that, that nurse can't practice its profession ever again!) One day, when she woke up, her mom was there. Her mother was talking to her girlfriend currently lying beside Hans telling her to take good care of her daughter then hands her a box. A set of jewelry. Then, her mom left. A week after, she was discharged from the hospital. Her girlfriend never left her side. Not one second. December, that same year, her girlfriend got pregnant. The guy that got her pregnant doesn't want anything to do with it. He says that that's not his (what a dumb prick?! Who's the father then? Hans?). Her girlfriend confessed to Hans and told her she wanted to have an abortion. Hans got angry with the idea of killing an innocent so what she did was took the responsibility and be the father (Dada) of the unborn child. Mr. Nakamoto too is excited about the baby. Every cravings of his daughter's girlfriend, daddy is there to buy (not literally. They have servants to do the buying). One day, when Hans got home from her Taekwondo training, went straight to her girlfriend's house and they informed her that they rushed her girlfriend to the hospital coz she's already in labor. When she got to the hospital, her girlfriend's youngest brother is playing with the wheelchair while waiting for her sister to come out of the Delivery Room. She approached him and asked about his sister's condition. They knew Hans. They know about her taking responsibility for the child. There's no violent reactions about it. They accept Hans as part of the family. Her girlfriend finally emerged from the Delivery Room and brought to a private room that Hans asked for. It's a boy! A bouncing baby boy! Days passed... The guy that got her pregnant shows up and because the baby looks exactly like him, now wants to take responsibility and to the extent that he brought his parents to Hans' girlfriend's home. He will marry Hans' girlfriend. But it's too late. They declined the guy's proposal. He can be a part of the baby's life but not a part of Hans' girlfriend's family. Hans already got that part. She too almost got a part of the baby's name, Hans Marcus but mother-in-law reacted so her girlfriend asked her to think of a name that starts with the letter H. So they registered him as Hendricks Marshall because he was born September 21, marshal law. But when Hans graduated and gone to college, her girlfriend cheated on her because she can't handle Hans being far away. After two years together, her girlfriend broke up with her. Two years later, she met Janna.

Her daddy calls her "Accident Prone" coz she really is. Until now.
