"Newt, she's bleeding like hell. If you carry her throughout she's not gonna make it. Heck, by the looks of her now, I don't think she can la-"

"Shut it, Minho!" Newt yelled. "I'm not leaving her here to die!"

Newt started to slowly lift her limp and unconscious body off the ground. The image of her being struck by lightning was now forever embedded in his brain as he fought to keep the tears away. He cradled her in his arms and his heart wrenched at the sight of her neck, shoulders and arms. They were bloodied up with skin torn here and there, exposing bits of flesh. The skin that wasn't torn, however, was bruised with shades of blue and red, the pattern of the lightning strike running across it.

He refused to stand from where he was kneeling and kept running a hand through her hair.

"You're going to be alright, (Y/N). I'll get you out of here and we'll get some help, alright? I need you to hold on for me, love," he whispered to her ears, wishing with all his heart that she could still hear him. He could still see her chest heaving ever so slightly and he only felt a slow heartbeat. Still, he had hope. He was going to carry her through the barren wasteland if he had to.

"Newt, she's weak," Thomas mumbled as he walked over to Newt. "What if something else happens out there?"

"Thomas, I am not leaving her here," Newt harshly replied as he cradled her to closer to his chest. "She's still alive, can't you see? She's still breathing!"

"Yeah, for how much longer, shank?" Minho remarked, his voice raising. It was almost out of anger, yet it wasn't. Newt could see the pain in his eyes too.

Newt looked around at the rest who only stood watching. He gritted his teeth and caressed her pale cheek, his heartbeat quickening as he felt how cold it was.

"Let her go, Newt," Minho mumbled, forcing the words out of his mouth.

"I-I can't," Newt sobbed.

"You have to. She isn't going to last any longer," Thomas added.

Newt was torn into two. He felt as if his bones were being crushed with every breath he took. The world was unfair and it was tormenting him. His heart had already broken into shards which he knew could never be put back together and his eyes stung with angry tears. He didn't know what to say. He didn't want to say anything. He only wanted to hold her and wished for a miracle that if he held her long enough and told her that she was going to be okay, she'd wake up and everything would be alright.

But it wasn't like that now. The others could see that she could easily stop breathing and they were slapping that reality to Newt. There was still a glimmer of hope in him and he could feel it in his guts that he shouldn't let her go, no matter how much everyone else was telling him to.

"Either you let me carry her through," Newt began. "Or you carry on without me."

"Newt," Minho interrupted, sick and tired of having to argue.

"For the last time, Minho, I am not leaving her!" Newt shouted.

He was going to keep to his word. He wasn't going to let her die.

"I'll do everything it takes! I don't care if I'm the last one behind all of you, I don't care if my knees give way! I love her and I'm not letting her go because there's a chance, Minho! There's still a chance for her to live because her heart is still beating!" Newt yelled, his veins popping out of his neck. He couldn't stop the bitter tears from streaming down his face.

"And I'm taking that chance, Minho! I'm taking it!" Newt continued.

Silence had followed as everyone was left speechless.

Newt cradled her head closer against his body and kissed her forehead, tucking her hair behind her ear.

"You're gonna be okay, (Y/N)," he whispered. "I'll be right here with you, love. I know you'll hold on."
