Skai woke up to a nightmare. One in which her grandma died. Even stranger, that guy, David, was it?, well him, he was the one there comforting her. She was sweating when she had woken from that horrible nightmare.

She even felt like crying.  The thought of losing her grandmother was heart wrenching. She clutched the sheets to her chest, trying to steady her breathing, she laid back on her pillow as she tried to get some sleep, after all it was 2 in the morning.

But Skai just couldn't go back to sleep. She got out of bed and checked on her grandmother. Her nana was one who heard the faintest of sounds in the noisiest of places, even in the depths of her slumber she would wake easily. Skai tiptoed to her bedroom and around her bed. "Nana" she whispered."Skai why are you up?" Nana said struggling to get out of bed. "Nana don't try and get up I was just going to get some water and decided on checking on you" she said. Nana smiled and rested her head back on the pillow before speaking "I'm fine honey, you go and get your sleep now" Skai smiled "ok nana" she kissed her forehead before exiting the room.

Skai made her way to the kitchen and grabbed a bottled water from the fridge. Then went back upstairs and got in bed.

"Nana I'm gonna take a walk around the neighborhood" Skai yelled to her grandmother.  "Ok but don't be too long, your mom might call and be careful" she warned. "Sure thing nana" Skai yelled back before exiting the house.

Skai went by the park and sat on a bench. Just watching people. This was basically her life. She didn't have a cell phone to keep her occupied.

"Excuse me is this seat taken?" A female asked. Skai looked up. To see a tall blonde girl and a big white/grey dog. "No not at all" Skai responded. The girl sat down and pulled out a red frisbee from her bag and threw it out onto the grass. The dog ran after it. "Whats your name?" The blonde asked. "Skai, Skai Foster" she said sticking her hand out, the blonde took it "I'm Kelly la Rosa, nice to meet you Skai" "nice to meet you too Kelly" Skai said shyly. "You're not from around here are you?" Kelly observed. Skai smiled. " no, im visiting my grandma,  I come here every summer, how'd you know?" Skai questioned.

"Well for one I have never seen you around here before and I know everyone around here, two you just don't look like you're from my neck of the woods." She stated.  Skai nodded. "So why were you sitting here alone if you don't mind me asking?" Kelly questioned looking in the direction of her dog as he ran toward her.

"No reason just uh...getting some fresh air" Skai mumbled.  "Cool, you seem really nice hope to see you some other time, when do you leave?" Kelly asked. Wow she really likes to dig into people's personal lives. "End of summer I guess" Skai answered.  "Ok give me your number so we can keep in touch" Kelly said pulling out her iphone. "Oh...sorry I don't  have a cell." Skai muttered. " oh come on every teen has a cell" Kelly stated. Skai looked away "n..not this one" "well, Skai, we can work around that, umm there's a party around here on Friday, could you make it if I gave you the address?" Kelly asked. Skai bit on her bottom lip, "uhmmm...I don't think my grandma would allow me to go to a party...with a stranger" "uh, please, I'm no stranger, to anybody, who's your grandma?" Kelly asked, once again tossing the frisbee her dog had brought back to her out onto the lawn. "Mrs. Smith" Skai answered Kelly spun her head quickly. "You mean Mrs. Joy Smith,  the widow ???" Kelly beamed "yeah...you know her?" Skai questioned.  "Know her? I absolutely love her" Kelly chimed.

Skai flashed her a shy smile. "That's cool. I should get going see u later Kelly" Skai mumbled standing to her feet. "Umm actually, maybe I should tag along so I can have a word with your grandma." Kelly suggested. Skai laughed showing off her white teeth and dimples. "Wow! You're one lion-hearted girl!" Skai chimed.  Kelly smirked before speaking and hooking arms with Skai "oh you have no idea!"

"Nana I'm home!" Skai yelled tossing her spare key on the table "and I brought a friend" she added, still unaware of her grandma's whereabouts. "I'm out back honey" her grandmother semi-yelled in a shaky voice. Skai turned to Kelly and tilted her head in the direction her nana was as an indication that she should follow. Kelly smiled and followed Skai.

She pushed pass the large french doors holding it out for Kelly. "Hey nana, what're you doing out here?" Skai questioned "just, uh, getting some fresh air" she said smiling. "Nana this is Kelly, Kelly,  nana, I just met her in the park" Skai mumbled picking at her nails.

"Hello Kelly, Skai I think I know her, your grandfather was good friends with my husband am I right?" Nana asked looking up at Kelly. She smiled warmly at the little old lady. "Right you are! Nice to meet you again" Kelly said sticking her hand out for nana to shake.  She took her hand but pulled her down for a hug instead "I'm quite the hugger" she confessed. Kelly giggled "I love huggers!!" She exclaimed going in for another hug. They both began laughing and it was evident they had started bonding.

Skai offered Kelly a seat. "Would you like something to drink Kelly?" Skai asked. "hmm, some water would be nice, please" Kelly responded politely. Skai nodded and jogged into the kitchen to get some water. "Hmm she didn't say what temperature" Skai mumbled to herself tapping the counter. She walked back out to the backyard where Kelly was. She would yell from the kitchen but her mother always told her "ladies don't yell and behave boisterous" and whenever she did something her mother didn't approve of, she would hear her voice in the back of her head, which if you think about it, could get pretty annoying.

Skai arrived just in time to hear Kelly telling her grandma about the party, but she was stuck trying to find a word to use instead of 'party' she knew better than to use the 'p' word, that would just send everything down the drain. "It's just a little...uh...were just going to a-" Skai interjected immediately, offering a word, she spoke "sleepover..."

What the hell?? Why is Skai even helping her out...I mean she's never been to a party, and of course she'd like to go but, she's just 17 and she is disobeying her parent's values and lying to her grandmother. This was so wrong.

Skai gulped hard. Her grandmother looked up at her with intense grey eyes, almost as if she could see right through Skai, her lips pressed together to form a hard line and a multicolored eyebrow raised upwards. She looked doubtful.

However she just sighed, "when is it?"she asked turning her attention to a beaming Kelly,  "it's this thursday!" She responded a bit too excited. Nana still seemed in doubt, she wore a questioning look "a..and how long have you two known each other again?" Nana challenged "a day" Skai mumbled "technically a few hours but Skai is a really nice girl and I'd love to show her around, you know" Kelly added. Her grandmother sighed in retreat "ok, just don't get in trouble and, well, have fun I guess, but Skai,  you can only stay for two days! You know your mom is going to be calling non stop" she said. Kelly leaped from her seat and crouched down to hug Skai's grandmother. "I'll take good care of her!!" She squealed.

Nana chuckled. "You had better!" She joked. Kelly smiled happily and began walking inside babbling on with nana about something. She stopped to grab her dog by the leash, who had gotten comfy on Nana's carpet. "Guess I'll see you Thursday Skai, by the way take my number, I'm sure you have a house phone" Kelly said still wearing that redonkulous smile, eh, atleast she had pretty white teeth. She wrote her number down in a notepad Skai had given her before saying goodbye and then she literally skipped out the front door. Skai shut the door, and leaned her back against it. She couldn't help but feel like she would end up having regrets about this day.
