Exactly one week has gone by since the now school famous Akita Neru has joined our class. When I first met her, she was a shy girl, but now she's a bit more open. I haven't seen that other side of her since, and I wondered if it was just my mind messing with me or if that could be her true self.

I sighed as RIn continued to talk me about a movie she wanted see later today, since, after all, it was a Friday. It was some tragedy about a woman with a split personality who falls in love with a man. Ah, just another chick flick we were going to see. Afterwards we would probably sob about how we wanted our own romance.

"Hey, do you think we should invite Neru?" I asked, seeing the school a block away in the distance.

"Sure, is she into that kind of stuff?" Rin asked, shuffling forwards as adjusting her messenger bag around her shoulder.

"I don't know, it doesn't hurt to ask." I replied to her as we finally approached school grounds. We walked past the gate, but our feet stopped at the scene before us.

Neru, the girl we were previously talking about, was letting Lily have it. They were at each other's throats as their arms swung several directions in large gestures. I could hear faint yelling from where we stood, causing us to only move farther up.

"Jeez. What do you think that's about?" RIn asked as we joined the crowd that had gathered around the two.

"Oh no, did I hurt your feelings?" Lily scoffed, leaning forwards towards the other girl, "are you going to go cry to your mommy now?"

Neru rolled her eyes, "I don't make habits of talking to the dead."

The dead.

Is her mom dead? Oh, no, I can't believe I didn't know this. I mean, that's vital information, why didn't she tell me this yet? She could've told me, after all, we're friends.

"Talking to the dead?" Rin quietly whispered to me, I turned towards her, "what happened to her mom?"

"I don't know," I mumbled, turning my attention back to two girls.

"You don't talk to the living that much either, do you?" She pressed forwards.

"I'm talking to you, aren't I? Oh wait, you're not living, are you? You're just the pathetic essence of a being." She crossed her arms, her head tilting back as she looked the other way. Her eyes widened as she spotted me in the crowd. Her eyes then traveled back to the girl as she shook her head. My best guess is that she didn't want me to see her like this again. "Huh? No response? I'll give you some time to think about one then. Get me when you have a half decent comeback."

With that, the girl pivoted towards me, pushing past the crowd until she reached myself and Rin. Neru then grabbed my wrist, pulling me away from the school and into the courtyard, farther from the separating crowd.

"Where are you going?" Rin questioned as we slipped away, losing her her in the crows.

I followed Neru to the front of the school, where we stood under a large oak tree. Her head was lowered once more as she tapped her thumbs together nervously, "I... I'm sorry... I just... Couldn't hold myself back."

"It's fine, don't apologize," I reassured the girl, giving her my best warm smile. "Besides, it's nice to see you let loose every once in awhile."

"You... You're not... Scared about how I acted?"

"Do I have a reason to be?"

"No... I guess not." She simply replied as she shifted positions once more, her back pressing up against the trunk of the tree. The outstretched branches casted shadows over us.
