Some people had mottos that really didn't fit their character. He was a prime example. Always jumping from one girl to another in a matter of months, even weeks or days, he wasn't someone you wanted to get attached to. And when he set his sights on you, you had better hide your heart somewhere safe, because it was bound to be broken.
--
You sat at a table next to a tree, watching Wonderland's residents interact with each other.
You had a knack for being able to tell almost everything about someone just by watching them. That was how you had managed to survive in this place for two years without anyone knowing who and what you were.
Using your inhuman deductive and questioning skills, you had discovered that you were the special existence known as Alice. How did you know this? Because Alice was the only existence that could come to Wonderland without actually being from Wonderland in the first place. You couldn't remember how you had arrived here those two years ago, but you had grown used to the unusual lifestyle and residents.
Right now, King was having another one of his Attend-or-You'll- Be-Executed parties. This was probably another excuse for him to kill someone. Thankfully, you had managed to avoid this fate for a full 740 days now, and you were quite proud of that.
Despite the fact that you had convinced everyone that you were not human, you still preferred to keep yourself isolated, watching everyone go about their lives.
You cast your [e/c] eyes over the party's attendees that stood out a little more.
Kuro Usagi, the black rabbit, paced around the vicinity impatiently, checking his trademark pocket watch every now and then; Boushiya sat at a longer table with the two sleeping Door Mice that could usually be found with him, wide awake and sucking up to him as usual to grab his attention before the other could; Sangatsu Usagi, the local pharmacist, as you liked to call him, also sat isolated, chewing on whatever medicine he had become addicted to. He was also the only one that suspected you to be human, though you had managed to push his suspicions away for the past two years; King stood on a platform at the very edge of the area, his lion, Leo, laying by his side, watching everyone with a stern expression; Ura Alice stood in another corner of the vicinity, engaged in a serious conversation with another of Wonderland's residents; And the Cheshire Cat stood surrounded by girls, as usual. You rolled your eyes. He was the one that pissed you off the most, and being female, he pissed you off even more. Cheshire was a player. That was a fact that everyone in Wonderland knew. He would become infatuated with some poor, unexpecting girl and jump to the next one in a matter of months. In some cases, you had heard of a girl being abandoned in a matter of weeks or days. Besides being Wonderland's one and only Alice, you were also somewhat of a counsellor for the girls of this world and Cheshire was one of the most frequent causes of their depression. Thankfully, you were a mediocre woman. You weren't anything special besides your inhuman abilities that no one actually knew about. There was no way that Cheshire would ever set his sights on an ordinary woman like you, so you were safe. You nodded firmly, confirming your own safety before taking another sip of your tea and continuing to observe the party.
--
Time passed and nothing out of the ordinary happened besides someone not getting executed. Last year, three people had been cut down by King within the first two hours of the party. You shuddered at the memory as you watched Cheshire practically bounce over to Sangatsu's isolated table and initiate a conversation that the scientist probably didn't want to partake in. You watched from the corner of your eye, noticing the both of them look in your general direction every now and then. You took another sip of your tea and pulled your pocket watch out of your pocket and checked the time. Ten o'clock exactly, the earliest people were allowed to leave the party which officially ended at twelve. Most of the attendees would begin to leave right about now, but some would stay until the party ended at midnight. You would leave at about eleven thirty, just to be on the safe side in case King's time was slower than everyone else's.
Just as you had deduced, most of the attendees began to leave the area after about five minutes after ten. This left a few people lingering, including Boushiya, Cheshire, Ura Alice, Sangatsu and, of course, King. Kuro had quickly left with the earlier procession, his eyes fixated on his pocket watch.
You sighed and picked up your tea cup with the intention of drinking more of the overly-sweet drink, before noticing that it was empty. You set down the cup and refilled it with the small blue and white tea pot. Satisfied, you took another sip and watched Sangatsu leave Cheshire to speak with King, probably about medicine that the oppressive ruler had demanded. You tried to watch the conversation without making it obvious as to what you were doing.
"[y/n]" A childish voice said from behind you, making you jump a mile. You whirled around, ready to throw your tea at the unlucky bastard that snuck up on you, only to be met with the grinning face of none other than the Cheshire Cat.
You relaxed your grip on the teacup and sighed, turning away from the cat. "Oh, it's just you."
"Ah~ so cold, [y/n]! I love it!"
You sighed deeply and took another sip of tea. "What do you want? I have more pressing matters to attend to." You said. "Like not talking to you."
Cheshire sat down in the seat opposite to you and leaned forward, a playful smirk spread across his face. "Sangatsu Usagi told me something pretty interesting just now." He said slowly, leaning in closer to you. "You know what I'm talking about, right? Alice-san?"
Your hand froze on the cup as an evil glint formed in his slitted green eyes.
"And it wasn't just a hunch either." He went on. "He has sooooo much evidence to back it up."
Sangatsu had never confronted you with evidence before. Just a hypothesis. That sly bastard knew it all along.
You exhaled deeply before bringing the cup to your lips again. "Have you been taking that rabbit's drugs again?" You questioned flatly. "Because something's wrong with your head, it's not working properly." You set the now empty cup down and checked your pocket watch. It was only eleven o'clock, but it was close enough. You stood up and turned on your heel.
"Ah? Leaving already, Alice?" He too stood up and appeared at your side. "You always leave at eleven-thirty. Have I caught you out, Alice?" He said, repeating that name again.
"No. I need to see someone. Kemushi. You might remember her?" Cheshire's latest victim.
"Ah~ Miss Kemushi. She was waaaay too clingy."
"Mhm. I'm sure." You said, making a move to leave the area when Cheshire called out to you again. "Where are you going, Alice?" He asked loudly, drawing all attention to you.
You clenched your fists and whirled around. "You're delusional!" You spat, storming out of the area, seething with anger and frustration.
"Alice?" King muttered, watching after [y/n] storm out of the party.
Beside him, Sangatsu muttered something under his breath.
"You knew about this, Sangatsu?" He demanded, reaching for the hilt of his sword.
"I had my suspicions." The scientist answered. "But nothing to back it up. It's not likely that she is Alice." He lied. It was obvious that the girl was Alice. Everything pointed to that fact, but for some reason, he couldn't bring himself to tell King that.
King just watched after the girl before turning his attention back to the party.
--
You were shocked into silence. "Another guy?" You said.
At the opposite en of the table, Kemushi nodded.
"After Cheshire dumped your ass, you're already going after another guy?"
The blue haired girl nodded again.
You sighed. "Who then?" You said, raising your teacup to your lips.
Kemushi cautiously looked around your room just in case this guy was in the immediate vicinity. "Sangatsu Usagi." She declared quietly.
You almost spat the contents back into the cup. "S-Sangatsu?!"
"Not so loud!" She hissed.
"Why Sangatsu, of all people?"
Kemushi regained her composure. "Oh, please. He's totally into me."
"No...he isn't." You said. "Look, Kemu-chan, as your friend it is my duty to tell you that going after Sangatsu is a terrible idea."
Much like Cheshire, Kemushi was known to be somewhat of a player in Wonderland. In the two years you had known her, the girl had become infatuated with at least ten people that you knew of. God knows how many others she had gotten with without you knowing about it.
"You're getting pissed at me for saying I'm interested in Gatsu-san, while you're flirting with Cheshire?" She questioned harshly.
Gatsu-san? This girl had already taken a massive step up in the relationship ladder. She was going to fall hard. "I'm not getting pissed at you, Kemu-chan." You said, resting both arms on the table. "And I wasn't flirting with Cheshire. He was flirting with me." You paused. "Actually, no he wasn't."
Kemushi raised her brows. "What the hell was going on, then?"
"He had some delusional idea that I was Alice."
Your friend's eyes widened. "Alice? Is it true?"
You sighed deeply. "No." You said flatly. "How in the seven hells would that even be possible?"
"Well, it is possible." She said. "I mean, you kind of did appear out of nowhere two years ago...and then you say weird stuff like that."
Crap. You had been giving it away for ages now and you didn't even know.
"Whatever. It's all untrue either way."
Kemushi just shrugged. She was gullible, which is why you chose to associate with her rather than anyone else. "Whatever you say. I'm going to go now. See ya."
You closer your eyes and sighed. She was going to confess. "Yeah. Later, Kemu-chan."
--
You knelt in front of your rose garden, planting a fresh batch of seeds in the soil. The plants in Wonderland tended to grow quicker and in strange ways, which is why you had created your garden, your pride and joy. You liked to experiment with Wonderland's different plants to see how they'd grow under certain circumstances.
"Ah~ You seem pretty enthralled with that garden, don't you, Alice?"
You flinched at the use of that word and someone behind you chuckled.
"Yet another reason why it's obvious that you're Alice."
You turned to find Cheshire standing behind you, smirking down at you, his emerald eyes glittering with amusement.
"What do you want?" You growled.
Cheshire ignored your question and bent over to examine a rose that had bloomed half white and half red.
Your eyes widened when she reached out to pluck the flower from the soil and slapped his hand away. Apparently, the cat had been expecting your reaction and caught your hand before pulling you to your feet.
"Don't be so cold towards me, Alice." He said, his voice lower than usual. He gently pulled you into his chest and ran his long fingers through your [h/c] hair.
You blushed a deep crimson red. "W-what are you-?"
"You look delicious." Cheshire said, cutting you off mid-sentence. He leaned in and lightly sniffed your neck before smirking. "How about we play a game. If I taste you and you're tasty, you're Alice and I win." He paused as he sniffed your neck again. "And of you aren't tasty, you aren't Alice and you win. How's that?"
"This is a stupid game!" You cried, struggling to remove yourself from his arms, but to no avail. "You're delusional! Let me go before I-"
"[y/n]" He cut you off again, using your name for the first time since the previous night. "Stop hiding it. It's so obvious that you're Alice that I'm surprised that you lived for so long undetected. Now~" He slowly drew his tongue up your neck, making you flinch and freeze at the strange sensation. He pulled back, muttering an 'oishi' before going back in for a second time, licking and kissing your neck. "Haa~ looks like I win, Alice-san."
Tears began to well in your eyes and all your emotions flooded out at once as you pathetically pounded on his chest.
The cat's eyes widened and he let you go in retaliation as you continued to deliver your weak attacks.
"You bastard! YOU BASTARD!" You cried. "I hate you! Do you know how hard it's been for me to keep someone close by?! And you just jump from one girl to another like its nothing! Scum! Die! Burn in hell!" Your punches slowly became weaker until they finally ceased, reducing you to nothing more than a sobbing mess. You were usually so calm around other, but now with your secret out, you couldn't contain it any longer.
A small sigh escaped Cheshire's mouth as he embraced you against his chest, stroking your hair soothingly. "It's alright. You won't be alone because I'll be there for you." You looked up and he smiled down at you. A genuine, sincere smile. "After all; loving one girl for eternity, that it my justice."
