As Tala pulled me through the crowd I could feel the eyes of that boy following us. We made it to the front gate with just a few bumps. The Head Master was standing on a podium trying to get everyones attention. The crowd quiets to a soft hum. A mic is placed in front of her. "Welcome, My name is Head Master Wolfe. Today you will be assigned room mates. The girls will be in the west dorm, and the boys the east dorm. But before that happens breakfast will be served in the cafeteria." She says. Her voice is a light tone which carries across the vast multitude of Sixteens'. We are split up into five lines. One by one we head to the cafeteria. As people walk past me I look to see if the boy will show up again.
Disappointment sets in as my line starts to move. Walking through the gates I become in awe of the sidewalks. They are made of different color stone. The sides are lined with old lamp post that need to be lit with fire at night. The actually school it self was like a castle. The east and the west wings were long. The main part of the building was two stories high. From where I was walking I could see that some windows were made with colored glass. As we approached the main door all I can hear are gasps ahead of me. When I neared the door my own little gasp joined in with the rest of them. The main hall was more like a grand hall. The painting and tapestries that aligned the wall were magnificent.
We turned down many halls before getting to the cafeteria. If I had to get back to the main hall I wouldn't be able to right now. The cafeteria was massive. There was maybe a hundred tables with only half of them filled. The new Sixteens stand around gawking at everything. I scan the crowd the for Tala or the boy that I had bumped into a while before. I didn't have a moment to scream before someone pulled me to them. To my relief Its Tala.
"Hey, you have to come meet these other Sixteens that were in my group." She says excitedly. I'm hesitant to follow her but can't resist. There is only four Sixteens left in her group when we arrive. She introduces them one by one. Aaron Welview, (She is short with long blond hair.) Christopher Blackwell,(The is taller than me and has dark blue eyes.) Sarah Rowell, (she is about the same height as me but she has brown hair.) Hunter Matthews,(He is just a bit shorter than me and has brown hair and blue eyes.) I smile as introductions are exchanged.
"Hi my name is Cassandra Blake." I say in a small voice after everyone was done. The group of four turn their focus to my wrist.
"What are your code numbers Cassandra?" Christopher asks. Before I can utter a word a hand flies up and smacks him in the face. The whole group burst out laughing as Aaron shakes her hand and Christopher holds his face.
"What was that for?" He asks Aaron. She just stares at him with a mean scowl before huffing and turning away. I scan the crowd a again for the boy before focusing back on the group. They were talking about something that involved me and I was sitting there like a dummy. My face turned bright red and I hid behind my hair. I heard the other guy Hunter chuckle at my attempt to hid my face. I could see Tala was getting uneasy with just standing around.
"Tala?" I ask.
"Yes." she looked at me with a silent plea to help her out.
"Do you want to get in line for food?"
"Yes, Yes I do." she jumps up and down in pure glee. We start walking to the line when a familiar head emerges from the crowd. "Hey, may I join you?" The boy I bumped into before asks. All I can do is nod my head in reply. The rest of my group is silent for the rest of the length to the line. I'm looking at the ground so I don't see the hatred look exchanged between Hunter and the boy. The line is moving steadily before they start talking again. Hunter starts the conversation back up.
"So do you think that we will get put into some of the same classes?"
"I don't know maybe." Aaron replied.
"We will find out after breakfast." The boy speaks out. The group gets silent again.
"Whats your name?" Sarah asks the boy. He smiles and looks at her.
"My name is Michael." Everyone says hi and we get our food and find a table to sit at. Once we were done we waited patiently for Head Master Wolfe to tell us what we had to do next. The rest of the kids that where sitting at the tables get up and leave. A hum settles over the Sixteens. I look around the group to see what they think. They are throwing silent glances around at each other like they are talking in their heads. I look at Michael to see if he will pay attention for a second, but his eyes roam around the cafeteria. With a huff I get up and move to another table that had just been cleared. Once I sit down a speaker comes to life with Head Master Wolfe's voice.
"Welcome to King-ridge High. In a moment you will be given your room numbers and roommates. But right now if you would split girls on one side and guys on the other." The room grows loud again as people get up and move around he room. Once we are settled her voice comes back to my ears.
"If the guys would get up and form two lines and follow Professor Glendale." the guys get up with a few mumbles and complaints. A few girls sitting close to me giggle at how the guys reacted. I just shrug and turn my attention back to Head Master Wolfe. She comes to stand in front of the girls with out the mic.
"Hello girls." she says with a cheerful smile. A mummer of replies answers her.
"Today we will go over your schedules and get your room information. But first we must talk about the dress code here." A few girls grumble.
" We have a school uniform here you only have to wear it on school days. The weekend is all up to you what to wear." The girls cheer at this news. I slightly giggle at their enthusiasm. She waits for the room to calm down to start talking again.
" Okay. When I say your name come to me and get your room key and wait till I say who you are sharing a room with." She starts to name girls off and I stop listening after the third one. I hear Tala's name get called and look up. She finds me and gives me a reassuring smile. I cross my fingers and hope that she calls my name. The time it takes for her to call the next name feels like a hour had passed. "Cassandra Blake." A rush of air comes to my lungs like I had been holding my breath.
