He knew it was dangerous. He knew what could happen. But instead he let her do it. He let her go, and could only watch in horror as she let go. All of the time he had spent watching her, observing her every move to better understand her. All of the time he had spent using that new knowledge to gift her with things, to gain her liking--to get her to say yes.

"Hiyori!" Yato screamed out, his emotional agony so clearly evident in his voice. Yet he could do nothing--only watch in desperation as she fell. He reached out, trying to grasp his everything, but was only met with nothing. No, no no no no no, Yato thought. This can't be happening--not like this. He dove forward, stretching out his arms. Come back! Please come back! He crashed into the water, his chest stinging as it scraped on the ground underneath the liquid that had taken his most loved. Then as everything became still, he heard it.

Chink.

No. No no no. Please, no. Come back. Come back to me. But he was far too late. The decorative shallow pool drain had already taken the five yen coin.
Yato shot up, staring down at the clumsy now-drenched girl.
"You dropped it? How do you drop it?" he spat. Hiyori, now standing up and wringing her saturated scarf out, glared at him. "It was only five yen. I have another."

Yato shook his head angrily. "If you gave me that then that means if you hadn't dropped the first one, I would have ten yen!"

Hiyori shrugged. "Fine, no yen for you. Plus I was only giving you money because you kept kissing up to me with my favorite flowers. Gosh, if you needed money that desperately you should have just asked me."
