It had been two days since I found out the alpha of a wolf pack thought I was his mate. Since then, the only contact I had to civilization was Lexi, who was like Liam's aunt or something. She came every day to feed me, and make sure I was alright, but I knew she was also making sure I didn't run off, per Liam's request.
I knew no one was looking for me. I wasn't on the top of the list of things needed to be done. All those bodies littering the yards and roads. An image of my dad's dull eyes clouded my sight, making my eyes blurry as bile rose into my throat. I pinched my eyes shut, burying myself into the blankets to try and escape the images and nightmares that seemed to follow me every hour of the day.
The sound of gekkering filled the quiet room and I jolted out of bed. That was a fox. I ran down the stairs and to the front door, swinging it open and stumbling onto the porch. My eyes widened, seeing a large black wolf fighting a fox I knew. David. He had come looking for me. I raced down the stairs, running towards the fighting animals as fast as I could.
From what I could tell, the wolf was winning. I didn't want David hurt. I was about to slam into the wolf, who currently held David's neck when out of the corner of my eye, someone came towards me, trying to intercept. I dodged him easily, bracing myself for impact as I lowered to the ground and pushed my shoulder forward.
I hit the wolf off guard, knocking him to his feet before running to David before anyone else could touch him. I lifted his injured fox into my arms, shielding him from the attacks of the other wolves. The black wolf rose to his feet, shaking out his silky fur before growling at me. I stood my ground, holding David to me tightly as his head rested in the crook of my neck.
"You can't hurt him." I spoke, backing to the porch, so no one could come at me from behind. I knew that if anyone did, David would warn me, but I wasn't going to take the risk of being caught off guard. The black wolf stalked towards me, a snarl pulling his lips over his teeth, blood covering his muzzle. I held David tighter to me.
He wouldn't dare shift back in front of the wolves. Shifting for any were was the most vulnerable, and it left you open to attack. David knew his only chance to fight fairly was to stay in the form he was. I ran my fingers through his fur before entering the house and shutting the door. I ran up the stairs and into Liam's bedroom, shutting that door as well before setting David on the bed.
He could barely stay on his legs. I ran my fingers through his fur. "It's alright. I wont let them hurt you." I breathed out, trying to relax him. "I came here to get you out of here. Your mum is worried sick." David spoke, using our mind-link. "Is Drew . . ?"
"He's fine, as well as Kevin." He looked down. "Marcus is dead." He was only saying something I had known, but to hear him say it, made my heart break all over again for him. "I-I know. The alpha killed him." The sound of angry footsteps caught our attention and David tried his hardest to rise to his feet, only being able to barely sit up.
I stood up, as a human shield as the door opened, a brooding alpha standing there with blood covering his chin. He was the black wolf. My hatred for him continued to grow. "Give him to me, now." Liam spoke, stepping into the room and slamming the door shut behind him. I swallowed the lump raising him my throat. "No." I croaked.
Liam rose an eyebrow at my defiance, finding it amusing. "No?" He asked. I nodded. "You're not touching him." I spoke. He stepped closer to me, but I stood my ground. I wouldn't let him kill anyone else I loved. "Was that a demand, Little Fox?" That question was loaded, and I didn't know if I should answer.
"If you want me to stay, no one touches him." I spoke. I knew my courage was slowly crumbling, but I held it together for David's behalf. "You can't stay here with him!" David spoke. I hushed him, keeping my eyes on Liam, who looked threateningly mad. I spoke again. "You let me fix him, and let him leave, unharmed and with no one following, and I promise I won't leave. I'll stay here, with you. No attempts at leaving, nothing." I spoke, my eyes filling with tears as the words left my lips.
