"W-W-We better get g-going." The man said "I-it's a long w-w-walk to the castle, and it will b-b-be dark in a f-few hours."
"The castle?" Asked Jake.
"Y-y-yes the princess has asked me to bring you to the castle, so she could s-s-speak to you before sh-she sent you o-o-off. Y-you will b-b-be spending the n-night and we will eq-q-quip you with w-weapons and ar-armour in the morning."***
"Stay right here, I will ask for admittance into the throne room" a guard who couldn't have been more than 19 told us. He turned to the door and knocked. We could hear sobbing come from the other side along with frantic shuffling. The guard looked back at us, shrugged his shoulders and knocked again.
After a few minutes we heard someone cry out "Oh just COME IN" and the guard stepped inside.
"You okay?" Jake asked me.
"Yeah, I'm fine. It's just a lot to take in at once." I said "Madd, you okay?"
"Yeah I'm good. I just hope we can save them."
"Yeah me too kid." I said.
Jake grabbed my arm and bent down to look in my eyes. "We will save them. We have to." He pulled me close and hugged me as he started to tear up. "We have to, they need us." he whispered.
Just then the guard returned. Jake and I broke apart.
"I'm sorry if I interrupted something....." the guard said slightly amused.
"No it's fine" I mumbled turning bright red.
The princess says she wants to speak to you one at a time. You first." He said pointing to me.
When I hesitated Maddie took my hand and Jake hugged me again.
"It's going to be okay Mags." Jake whispered to me. "We will be right out here."
Maddie squeezed my hand and I let go of Jake and hugged her too.
