I followed the guard through the doors into a large room with three thrones on the far wall. The princess, exactly as I imagined her was sitting on the middle throne. I walked up and bowed awkwardly.
"You must be Maggie?" The princess asked.
"Yes your highness."
"At ease" the princess said and I looked up to her. "Can you help me find my crown or not?"
"Your highness I have no special abilities and neither do my friends, I have extensive knowledge of your world and so does my sister. My friend Jake is strong and confident, however we have no supernatural abilities, or magical powers. We don't know why we were chosen to complete this task."
"Only you were chosen." the princess said looking into my eyes "The profecy shows you saving us with their help, but you are the chosen one. I appreciate your honesty, but you never answered my question. Can you save us or not?"
"We will do everything we can to help you" I said.
"If you can help us you will be well rewarded. I hear you love it here? You will be granted passage into our land whenever you want. You will receive riches beyond your wildest dreams. You and your friends will be allowed to stay in the castle when you come to this land or we can build your own home, whichever you desire. However for this to happen you must first save our land. As you can feel it is already starting to get colder."
"We will find a way to help your people your highness." I said.
"Tansheen" the princess called addressing the guard "bring in the boy"
"Yes your highness."
"You can stay." the princess said to me. "I just need to speak to your beau and your sister."
I didn't want to correct the princess of Wingleton, but I also didn't want her to be throwing words like "beau" around when Jake came in so I quickly explained that Jake and I are just friends.
"For now." was all she said in response. My face felt hot.
Jake and the guard, Tansheen, entered and Jake bowed before the princess.
"And you must be Jacob?" She said smiling at him. "At ease my dear."
He looked up at her and smiled.
"Your friend Maggie was telling me how you are strong and smart, and will be a great asset to her on her quest."
"I will do everything I can to help."
"Thank you" she smiled "you will be greatly rewarded for your troubles. I would go myself, but my parents wouldn't let me." She rolled her eyes "got to keep the princess safe right?"
The princess and Jake started talking about what or who could possibly have taken the crown and I couldn't help feeling a little left out.
"What do you think Mags?" Jake asked.
"Was there any sort of damage?" I asked the princess.
"No it was as if nothing happened. I was sleeping with my crown by my bed, when I woke up it was gone. There was only a note in its place."
"Can we see this note?" Jake asked.
"Tomorrow" the princess said "You have all been through a lot today, you need your sleep. I will talk to the young one in the morning."
"Tansheen! Take them to their rooms and make sure their comfortable."
"Yes your highness" Tansheen replied and motioned towards the door.
