My Holiday Gift

"Okay, dad. I'm going to the gift wrapping section now.", Annabeth informed Frederick Chase as the history professor carefully read the lines of a book about the history of Gibraltar. Frederick clawed his wallet in his pocket and took out the right amount of money for gift wrapping. He handed it to Annabeth and gave her a questioning look. "Why don't you just wrap your own gifts for your cousins?"

Annabeth sighed after hearing that same question for the millionth time this week and prepared to say that same answer, but she was cut off. "Yeah, I know. You're too 'busy' to do it yourself.", Frederick smiled.

The honest reason was that she didn't want to wrap it. Her laziness always got over her whenever she tries to do something family-related, and the father-daughter pairing going to the book store was just one of those days where she could just flop out of her bed and go somewhere else aside from her books. It even took all her willpower to buy gifts for her family with the excuse of it being the holiday seasons. Her dad kept asking her questions like 'Why don't you play with your siblings?' or 'What is it with you and sharing your books with your uncle?' and even the ever annoying 'Why don't you wrap the gifts yourself?'. She always answered with reasons like 'I'm busy.' or 'I'm not feeling fine.' or even 'I hide my drugs in my books.' and her father would always smile after those lame excuses.

Annabeth walked to the gift wrapping section and queued in the long line of people wanting to wrap their gifts. She groaned mentally and continuously tapped her foot into a beat as she tried to find ways to calm down her impatience.

What did I expect? It is Christmas tomorrow.

She tried to interest herself on the bookshelfs nearby and it worked for a few seconds before she found out that she had already read all the books in it. So, she tried interesting herself on the wood the shelf was made of.

After a few moments, it was finally her turn. She handed the books she wanted to get wrapped and paid the money. "Wrap them separately, please.", she told the clerk.

Annabeth was given a few cents as change and took the wrapped gifts. Her change slipped from her hands and fell. She bent down and picked them up, but noticed that it was lacking. She felt a hand poking her shoulders and turned.

Annabeth met with stunningly beautiful green eyes. She checked who owned those eyes and found out that it belonged to a guy about her age with messy jet black hair and a dorky smile. He was slightly taller than her and wore an unzipped navy blue hoodie over a printed orange shirt. Hanging in his right shoulder was a backpack that looked like it stored a couple boulders. Must be the gifts, Annabeth thought.

She didn't realize she was staring at him for awhile until the guy talked.

"Um, miss, here's your change. You dropped it.", he spoke as he scratched the back of his head with his free hand.

"Oh, uh, right.", she felt her face heat up a little. They remained staring at each other for awhile.

Then, behind the guy, a girl popped out. She was as tall as Annabeth with dark brown hair falling to the sides of her gentle face. The girl was really beautiful. She tapped the boy and pointed to the clerk.

"Percy, it's our turn. Hurry, the line's getting longer.", she had a sweet voice and a fluent way of speaking.

So, his name is Percy., Annabeth noted.

Judging from their body language, Percy and the girl were really close. She doesn't know why, but she felt jealous like she had never felt before. She was feeling something very foreign to her, but it felt familiar like that time she ate recess with her childhood friend, Luke Castellan when she was still at first grade. No, this was more.

Am I...?, Annabeth shook that thought away and took the change from his hand.

"Thank you.", then she walked away.

She didn't know if it was just her imagination or not, but she thought she heard Percy call the girl 'mom' when he was apologizing, which kinda relieved her no matter how impossible it was.

That girl looked too young and beautiful to be a mother.

Later that day, she fell asleep during the drive in her car going back home with only one thought in mind: she fell in love with that dork named Percy.

This is my first ever one-shot, but I hoped you enjoyed it! If you thought it was good, comment now! If you thought it was horrible, comment now! Comment whatever you would like to comment! Don't forget to vote! I also accept requests.
