Part 20 : Engineer of Oblivion

The bone breaking reality change from the dark to the normal world stunned Emily as she on her hands and knees,their words lost upon her traumatized mind.

They failing to notice she had the box as it was flung out of her hands as she had entered the room through the mirror portal.

Leah never having met Jamie's sister was taken by her wholesome beauty instantly,'Oh my your sister is beautiful Jamie,we should take her with us!'her eyes shone with delight.

Jamie looked to her with a growing curiosity of what she had in mind,'I don't know whats going on Emm,the mirror thing is becoming a theme,how did you get in to there?'

He advanced to help he up as she recoiled from  him,'Tell her Jamie..'Leah barked as she inspected her long fingernails with a look of annoyance on her face.

Picking up a knocked over chair from the floor,he sat reclining  on it like a uncomfortable statue,'Emm,we hoped we'd bump into you again,we know you know that things have happened,bad things,and me and Leah we want to have a life together in this world,when all this box business is over,and we want to trust you,you know,the box....'

Emily her back to the corner eyes bloodshot her pulse still racing,'You're not even sorry for what you did are you?,they'll come for you,you won't escape the things...'her voice becoming breathless.

He signed as he saw the funny side,''Leah chuckled as she lent back glaring at her.

They both laughed,'Emm we're both restored now,we can't be taken back a second time unless we open the pathway again.'

Noticing the corner of the box as it was half hidden under a table cloth she continued. to play for time,'And you'd let me live?,how do you know that another box wont come my way or worse?,i want my brother back but he's dead and you're some by product of the box,i just want to trust you for thing to be like they were before...'

Leah leaning against a chest of drawers slipped her hand in,her finger caressed a hammer,'Jamie we can't take the risk,she won't keep quiet,she'll tell on us to the cenobites.'

He torn as to what to do ignored Leah as he knelt before her,'Please i don't want to hurt you,you're my sister i care about you,i know i did bad things,i had to to survive to escape the cruel ones.,if you were there you'd understand why.'

Shaking her head tears ran from her scared eyes,'Brother...' she sobbed

Leah loosing patience,snapped,'She doesn't understand,i told you,i won't go back not even for your pretty ginger sister.'

'You damned stupid bitch  I was there i saw that place i met Sarah,she knows what i know now,you can't win,they'll come for you!'

She pulled the hammer out 'in plain sight 'Lies she's a liar,I'll do it,even if you won't i won't go back...'

Jamie not noticing as his back was turned to her was unaware of her holding a hammer,Emily quick to catch on lurched the three feet to the table  as she reached for the box,Leah stopped dead one step into swinging for her. as her eyes met the familiar form of her doom.

''You little bitch!!' Leah yowled as Jamie finally noticed she wielded a hammer,'Damn it Leah no!'

'You know Jamie,you always had terrible taste in women,i'd send her back in an instant!',her hands held the instrument of their torment,her fingers stroked the keys and places of judgment.

Leah now held fast by her beloved nearly exploded in rage,'Damn it i'm gonna enjoy this,just you watch! let me go or i'll kill you too!'

'Leah LEAH! NO! she met Sarah,that means shes in there too,we have to get out to run or they'll come for us!'

As they struggled she swing for him as he narrowly missed the stroke of her madness,'I'm not running again, she knows nothing just a liar buying time,she's a traitor to us,time to play little girl here comes mummy! '

Her eyes wild mouth grimacing in untold anticipation,she raised it again,the hammer almost eager to do her bidding as she held it aloft,her heart in rapture,Jamie grabbed her arm,'Not like this NO!..'

Emily almost distanced from the rooms unending growing terror in that moment felt safe as a palpable clink then a static charge snapped from her to the room itself.

Suddenly a scream of a name,her name 'Leah' echoed from beyond the walls of the room,like a song of woe and delight it cut the words into her heart,closer and closer the scream became a gut twisting wail,in a moment it was here behind the walls,a formless something  looking searching  scratching and clawing to get in.

Leah dropped the hammer in shock as Jamie alarmed eyes of a scared animal turned to open the door,I'm getting out of here bugger you two i'm off!'

As he did the door became white hot,he screamed in pain and terror as the handle then came away in his hand,he screamed as it stuck to his palm,it fell from his hand glowing like a hot coal on the floor.

Damn it get the box off her now!,Leah bawled, her order like that of an officer to a soldier,

He wild picked up the hammer as he filled with a new darker rage,snarled,'YOU!',

Emily screamed, he lurched at her,as the wall opened like a razor through soft tissue,he almost upon her was violently flung back smashing a small coffee table on his way into the opposite wall.

Out of the black freezing void emerged an engineer,a spider like multi limb  shrieking monstrosity,a humanoid elongated  body with a scorpion like tail thashed,

Small piercing yellow eyes spied their prey as its long wide open mouth housing razor sharp teeth, let fourth a deep bellowing cry,it then defeated the space it had now desecrated,as it defied gravity one of its powerful arms knocked over the screaming Leah as it's other arms extended a wide fearsome long fingered grip around her small waist to hold her firmly,'No stop,please! ,please!Jamie kill the bitch kill Emily!kill her you little bastard!'

Jamie then again came at his sister as she kneeling tears in her eyes as she let the box fall to the floor between her knees.

Her arms raised to protect herself  as no assault came,his body  became taught like a string of a violin,motionless he cried as the thing now grasped his left arm by the wrist its strong fingers easily held him tight as he swung the hammer in a last gasp bid to punish her for letting the engineer in to get them,'Emily!' he cried.

He just missing her head  then roared in pain as the monster twisted him by his arm inducing pain in his shoulder and elbow,awkwardly it flung him towards it's distended wretched body.

Leah writhed as she was thrown about like a rag doll,Jamie struggled as he hit it with the hammer,it slapped him hard over and over with it's free fourth arm,it then dashed his body against the wall,the both of them enduring a seriously painful bludgeoning as if they were hell's naughty children that had been caught red handed doing something they shouldn't have.

Emily still on the floor felt only pity for them both as it then swung itself with the two evil murderers,they cried and screamed in true vitriol at the beast sent to capture them,as it painfully crashed back into the gaping wound in the wall,the cries and screams fading as the walls closed a final time.

Stunned and drained she heard a strange clicking,looking down to the box it opened as part of it lifting back out and turning 45 degrees,it then  slid back and the the cadence that had dogged and terrified her suddenly stopped.

Slumped against the wall she closed her eyes,whispering  'I survived,why?'
