Okay, so I reloaded the first chapter with a picture of Shaw instead, since it described him, and put Kyle's picture here :D
I know not a lot happened in the opening chapter, trust me I'm the one who wrote it, but more happens here, I promise.
*Shaw's POV*
When you're a werewolf, you're destined to have a mate. They could be anyone. They could be anywhere from the same age as you, to years younger than you or, if they're a werewolf themselves, they can be years older than you. They could be were or human. They could be male or female.
Unless you're an Alpha. When you're born of Alpha blood, your mate is always female so that your pack can have a Luna. They have to be around the same age as you, so that you can inherit the pack and become Alpha sooner, and so that you can bear pups sooner. The only thing that's the same is that they can be were or human. Unfortunately for me I'm an Alpha.
Now I know what you may be thinking right now. Probably something along the lines of: 'why the hell wouldn’t you want to be an Alpha?' right? Well, it's not that I don’t want to be Alpha of my father's pack one day, because I really do want to lead the pack sometime in the near future. It's because I want to be able to have a male mate. Yeah, you read it right. I'm a gay Alpha.
There hasn’t been a gay Alpha since, well, ever. It's unheard of. And now I'm giving up hope of ever finding my mate at all. When you turn 7, the connection with your wolf begins to wake, and you can hear him, or her (it depends on if you are male or female yourself). Around your 12th birthday you can learn how to turn into a wolf. Then, when you turn 16 the connection with your wolf is complete, and you can find your mate. You may not find them straight away, but you'll find them eventually, unless they die before you find them.
Most find their mate within half a year. I'm 17 now, and I'm starting to notice how everyone around me is finding their mate. Now, I know that my mate is out there somewhere, because if they're already dead, you know it. You can feel when they're not there anymore. But I still feel a pang every time I see someone with their mate. I want that. I want that connection with another person. The only thing I'm not looking forward to, at all, being mated to a female. That would take a lot to getting used to.
I'm snapped out of my thoughts when my Beta sits next to me on the sofa. "Hey man"
"Hey" I say back, looking over at him.
"Dude, you're fucking huge now compared to the last time I saw you" he says with a look of astonishment on his face.
I roll my eyes at him, saying "it's been two years since the last time you saw me, what did you expect" in a duh voice.
A blush blooms on his face, and he stutters out "o-oh yeah, d-didn’t think of it l-like that." Taking a deep breath, he looks at me curiously and asks in a normal voice "so, how was Alpha training?"
I shrug, saying "it was okay, I guess." Okay that was a flat out lie. It was torture. When you're a future Alpha, you go away for two years and train to become a good Alpha. You leave when you're 15, so that you don’t have to worry about being away from your mate, because it would make the whole thing a hundred times worse to be separated from them after you’ve found them. That’s actually the reason for me not finding my mate yet. I just haven’t had the chance to look. After the training, which a lot of us refer to as 'Torture Camp', you come back and do your senior year at high school, just so you can get used to living closely among humans again.
Next to me my Beta snorts, saying "yeah right, we both know it was torture, your dad told me about it"
Sighing, I let my shoulders droop and slouch into the sofa. "Yeah, it was awful"
