Over the next year, the brilliant men and women of the university keep sending me knew information proving Dr. Signfeld correct as well as bringing new things to light.
With all of this information, the scientists and I decide to dictate our information to the university and then broadcast it out the world on national television. I am nervous, having to talk to so many people is scary. But, it has to be done.
It is the day to speak to the university. I am in the wings of the stage about to go on. Stevie is behind me. I stare at the big stage, scared. I wore kitten heels and a silky, black skirt suit, somewhat feeling out of my zone. The real reason I am so nervous is because I will be the bearer of bad news. If I say what I'm about to, I'll feel like I am placing a curse upon humanity. Like, if I keep my information hidden, everything will be alright. But, it won't, and I'll only be condemning the world. Taking a deep breath, I turn and purposefully walk into Stevie's chest, wrapping my arms around him in a gripping hug. Stevie breathes in the smell of my hair through his nose.
"Good luck." he whispers.
"Thanks." I say. "I love you." I swallow.
Stevie gulped. "I love you too."
I break away from him and walk unto the stage as I am announced.
I walk up, the microphone headset ready to project my voice. The background of the room is blue, the stage floor is a dusty black, and the pit and the audience are shielded in darkness.
I let out a cheeky smile and begin my lecture.
"Hello. My name is Evidence Storey. I know, my parents definitely had a sense of humor. Just wait until I tell you my occupation." The crowd lets out a gather of chuckles as I pace the stage.
"Now, as an intelligence analyst and a detective, I love a good mystery. So, when I almost died from a bomb exploding in my computer, my interest hit its peak." I continue.
"So what did I do? Not the expected. I did everything in my power to ignore the fact that someone planted a bomb in my office. Then, I found an envelope with an invitation to an abandoned school half an hour away form my home. So what did I do? Once again, not the expected. I went to the abandoned school to find my attacker."
"So why am I speaking here today? Well, I'll tell you how Dr. Signfeld told me in that abandoned school of St. Josephs." I pause and smile at the memory then continue. "The end of the world is upon us." I hear a few gasps before a few laughs.
I smile. "No, I am serious." Everyone quiets to listen to my explanation.
I continue. "After speaking with Dr. Signfeld, I had specialists run tests to see if his statements held any truth." I look down, letting the information sit well on everybody's shoulders. I look at the screen where the mandarin translation went across the screen interchanging with my face. I know I had to speak in English for this presentation, though many students and professors here do not speak English. I speak up once more. "I found out that on December 21, 2020, the estimated date, a solar storm will be coming towards Earth. Now, the earth would be fine if our magnetic field would not disappear on that same date for about two hours weakening our already fragile atmosphere. But, that's not the only thing. The poles are straightening which is contributing to a global rising temperature. The complete straightening is estimated to occur or stop on that same date. There will no longer be a tilt of the axis."
After the audience has read the translation and the information has fully settled in their mind, a commotion of speaking and unsettled people began.
"Now!" I call out, catching everyone's attention back towards me. "What can we do to stop this? What can we do to protect ourselves, our livelihoods, our jobs, our families, our ways of life?" Everyone is once again silent. "I am here to tell you that there is a way to save ourselves." I go to the side of the stage, my heels the only sound, as a man meets me and gives me a small, white, cardboard box. I walk back to center stage.
