Scarlett's POV

Previously:

With a final nod of agreement, Harry left their circle and came back to my side. My waist was immediately captured by his arm.

I looked up at him. "I know what you're going to do."

If he was surprised, he didn't show it. "You would do the same if you were me."

I didn't object.

*****************************

Luke was restlessly waiting in Harry's bedroom when we returned. As soon as we entered, he shot up off the bed and came to stand in front of me. His eyes were wild as they searched my figure.

"Are you okay?" he asked seriously, completely disregarding Harry's presence. It made my heart ache with relief. He was still Luke. I nodded, but just as I was about to open my mouth to tell him what a terrible plan this was, Harry spoke up.

"The Kings and I have decided to surrender in exchange for the antidote," he stated, and Luke nodded, as if he had expected this answer.

"My men are preparing to deliver the antidote in large quantities at the entrance. Go to the people in the meetings room and announce your surrender, then line them up to receive the antidote," Luke commanded, making Harry grit his teeth in agitation at being ordered around. Clearly he was unused to the feeling, but he just gave a stiff nod and turned to me.

"Let's go," he said, gripping my waist even tighter, attempting to get me to turn around. Luke instantly objected.

"Scarlett, you don't have to go with him, not anymore." He gave me a meaningful look. I nodded slowly, glancing at Harry, who was urging me with his eyes to go with him.

"I'm staying with Luke," I said, my voice only wavering slightly. It felt strange defying Harry's wishes, but it was a good weird. It felt like I could breathe again. Still, I knew I was just shooting myself in the foot because when the Kings took over once more, and they would take over, Harry was going to be even more pissed off than he already was, and he would take his anger out on me for betraying him. If I was smart, I would've gone with him and done everything in my power to get back in his good graces. But I wasn't smart. Steam looked ready to start coming out of Harry's ears. He threw a venomous glare to Luke and stormed out of the room without another word.

As soon as he was out of sight, I spun around to face Luke.

"What the hell are you thinking? Harry is just going to take the antidote and then attack once more! You're setting everyone up for-" Luke cut off my accusation with a hard kiss. He gripped my face in both of his hands, pulling my body flush against his. My eyes widened in surprise, and yet I felt my body melt into Luke's figure, responding only for a second before my eyes snapped back open. I roughly shoved him away, somewhat out of breath.

"Stop! You can't just kiss me and pretend everything is okay!" I snapped. Luke looked wounded by my words, and I felt guilt creep into my system. My figure sagged.

"What are we going to do?" My voice was desperate. Luke took my hands, staring me straight in the eyes.

"The antidote is fake, Scarlett. I lied to Harry that so he would surrender. The real plan is for Mark and the werewolves to attack while everyone's guard is down. As for us, we're going to leave for the coast while everyone is distracted. I've already arranged for a ship to take us to Australia. Harry can't follow us there. It was why I was being so cross. I had to make him hate you to lessen the chances of him ever coming after us," he responded seriously, voice hushed, and my lips parted slightly, my chest squeezing in temptation.
