Britan's POV

9/01/15

We pulled our car into the campus. A huge banner was spread over the entrance and it read in big letters, "WELCOME CLASS OF 2019" meaning me and my fellow freshman classmates.

Today was a day of firsts, the first time I would be coming to college, my first dorm, first roommates and the first time I was leaving my family. I thought I was ready, but now I wasn't so sure. Summer had been amazing but also sad. My boyfriend of 3 years had broken up with me and so that made my summer kind of suck. The only good thing was that I had gotten to see my favorite band, One Direction, in concert. Literally the only good thing, but hey, it was enough for me.

But I was ready, I was ready for a fresh start and to meet new people. I just hated saying bye to my family. We were so close. My brother and I literally did everything together. Movies, mall, eating, heck he even went with me to the One Direction concert. But only because my boyfriend, well ex boyfriend, was supposed to go with me. He was pretty great. But he would be leaving soon. After they dropped me off he was heading out to join the Army and that was hard.

We pulled up in front of the welcome building and got out of the car. People were literally everywhere and I could feel the stares from the upperclassmen. I hated being the new kid, it was like freshman year of high school all over again. I was literally dreading this so much. I just wanted to get back inside the car and head home, but I knew that I needed to do this. I needed this. It would be good for me to get away and start over in a way.

We walked to the info desk and a girl with insanely white teeth, smiled at us. Her name tag read, "Jennifer".

"Hi! My name is Jennifer. How can I help you?" She said.

"Hello," my mom said. "My daughter, Britan, is a freshman here and needs to get registered."

"Oh yes of course!" She was super excited about this. "Here's your paperwork."

She handed me some papers. They had a schedule of events and meal times. This was going to be a struggle to keep up with. We walked down the hallway and I got my picture taken for my ID card. Yet another ID card that made me look hideous. Oh well, girl problems.

After that I got my dorm room number and we heard over to the dorm rooms so that I could get all moved in. Mom and I walked up the stairs to my room, while Dad and Bryce, my brother, unloaded the car.

I opened the door and to my surprise s girl was already in there. She was laying across her bed, reading a book. She had headphones in so we had to walk in front of her to get her attention.

"Oh hey!" She said as she pulled out her headphones. She quickly say up and held out her hand for us to shake.

"I'm Clair." She said.

"I'm Linda Morris and this is my daughter, Britan." Mom said. We both shook her hand.

"It's nice to meet you both." She smiled and showed beautifully white teeth.

Clair looked like a model. She had lightly tanned skin, her hair was long and dark brown, it curled a little at the ends and she was skinny. She wore skinny jeans with converse, as opposed to my combat boots and she was wearing a lace tank top.

"Do you need any help moving in?" She asked.

"Well I think we can handle it. But thanks for asking." My mom said.

"No problem. Just let me know if you do." Clair said.

"Will do." Mom said.

We walked out of the room and back down to help dad and Bryce unload the car.

"She seems very nice. I like her." Mom said to me as we walked out.

"Yeah she seems alright." I said.

Mom just rolled her eyes at me. I never judged people by first impressions. I always waited until I got to know them better before I decided how I felt about them. Because people are good fakers.

We all grabbed a handle of stuff and walked up to the room. We basically just piled it all up on my side of the room. Dad and Bryce talked to Clair, while mom and I set up my side. We made the bed, set up my bookshelves, and hung my clothes. Once we were finished we all walked back downstairs. Now came the part I had been dreading all day, goodbye.

Bryce was first. We hugged for a long time, but it wasn't quite long enough.

"You'll write to me when you can?" I asked as we parted.

"As much as I can. Promise."

"You better." I said laughing.

I hugged dad next.

"Be smart and take care of yourself. We're just a phone call away."

"Yeah I know. Thanks dad." I said.

Then mom. She was already crying. I had been doing fine until we got to her. Now I could feel the tears coming. She grabbed me and hugged me tight. I had heard it was always harder with the moms, saying goodbye. But I never thought it would be this hard.  Once she finally let go. She dried her eyes and breathed in.

"Now if you get homesick and want to leave just call and we'll be here. Don't hesitate."

"I won't. I'll call." I said.

"Okay good." She hugged me again.

I hugged dad and Bryce a second time and told them bye. I watched them climb into the car and pull off. I waved and watched them disappear. The whole time trying not to run after them and get them to take me home.
