Chapter 6

-Juliet-

I heard the shower start. Then, I ran upstairs to Mammas bathroom and grabbed the laxitives she hid in her bathroom. I'm pretty sure Rayne didn't know Mamma even had it.

I dumped some into a separate bowl that I put a little bit of the cookie dough in, and darted back upstairs. Right after setting the lactose in it's original hiding place, I heard the shower shut off.

Stirring the cookie dough, I placed it in the oven. I mentally noted to myself that the four cookies on the left side of the pan were filled with laxitives and were meant to be given to Rayne.

.....

I woke up sometime in the middle of the night and heard Rayne rushing to the bathroom. Phase 1: complete. I giggled to myself, remembering the look on Raynes face when she bit into that first cookie. She ate all four.

.....

Sunlight gleamed through my eyelids and woke me up. I pulled on some jeans and a T-shirt and headed for the bathroom. Expectantly, Rayne was in there.

After waiting a few minute, Rayne emerged from the bathroom with a weird look on her face. It took all I had not to laugh.

.....

I walked into the school that day alone with a bright smile on my face. Zach stared at me as I walked into the classroom. We weren't that old, only in 5th grade. But it seemed like I was on top of the world right now.

"Where's Rayne?" Mrs. Benson, our teacher, asked me.

"She's not feeling too well today," I gave her a great big smile. "I'm sure she'll be back tomorrow though."

"Would you like to take her work home for her?" she asked me. I don't even understand why she asked. She knows we never do it. We only do enough to get us by.

"Of course," I said as she put a small pile of paperwork into my hands. After school I would just go throw it into the trash.

I sat down at my desk, and pulled out a notebook and pen that I always drew in. I heard Ms. Benson begin to drone on about something that had to do with gravity.

........

On our way to lunch, Zach ambushed me in the halls.

"Wheres's Rayne?" He asked annoyingly. What was he? A stalker?

"None of your business! Why do you care anyway? She hates you, you know... She hates that you even talked to her. That's why she is at home. She's afraid your stalking her. Now leave her alone!!!" I lied easily.

He walked off with a hurt look on his face.

.....

Every time I saw Zach in the halls, I smiled. He looked so depressed. Even the teachers noticed.

During Math, I was sitting at the back of the classroom eaves dropping. A couple of preppy girls kept whispering and looking in my direction. Perhaps they noticed Rayne gone?

The leader of the pack came over and asked, "What the heck were you thinking? Telling off Zach! Wow... You know he's like my brother. You do one more thing to him, and your as good as roadkill to me..."

I laughed. "Whatever you say Queen Elizabeth..."

She gave me a dirty look and walked off.

Well I guess Phase 2: Separate Rayne from Zach is complete.
